Re: wont read disc.
The drive in the the xbox360 is married to the motherboard. Which means you have to extract the original bin from the old drive and install it in the new drive in order for it to play games. We can do this for you if your interested email us firstname.lastname@example.org

Its possible because the laser inside of the disc drive is sensitive to motion. The console dropping could cause the laser to go bad because the "eye" goes bad. The part that reads the disc. Depending on what game console your talking about, try getting another know good working drive and replace it to verify that the original is bad.
This is an extremely common problem with the PS3 and is caused by a problem with the laser on the Bluray drive which is malfunctioning and can no longer read the game disk properly.
The PS3 uses a dual laser system. This consists of either a dual refractor type lens or two entirely seperate lenses depending on which pickup is fitted to your particular system. One laser is for reading ordinary DVD disks and PS2 disks and the other for Bluray and PS3 games.
The symptoms you describe are typical of a failure of one or both of these lasers.

The laser in the drive is probably going bad. Use a can of air and blow some into the drive so that way your making sure no specs of dust or dirt are on the laser. If after you do that it still won't play any discs, then you know the laser is bad so you can either replace the laser or replace the whole drive which is easier to do.
The laser could be dirty, or wearing out. Try to us a disc drive cleaner CD and see if that helps. If not, something in the drive (ie the laser) is going bad and will need a replacement. If you have warranty available contact Microsoft. If not, it's a rather simple process to change the drive and I'm sure someone local can get it done.
this can be caused by a dirty laser in the drive, or a laser that has completely gone out. it will most likely need to be replaced. check with microsoft to see if your unit is still under warranty at this site: http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/LiveIDSignIn.aspx?redirectUrl=http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/registerdevice.aspx?step=repair
if the unit is no longer under warranty, we'd be happy to clean/replace the laser for you. we are a console repair company based out of dallas, tx. all of our repairs come with a 90 day warranty that covers the whole console, not just what we fix. we also offer extended warranties at an additional cost.

Take a can of air and blow some air into the drive to be sure no specs of dust or dirt is affecting the laser.
If that doesn't work then its going to be either the laser or the dvd drive that is bad. Replacing the laser is cheaper but more time consuming cause you have to take apart the system then the drive to replace the laser, whereas the drive you just take apart the system and swap out the drive. You can get the drives from Ebay all the time.
It could be a problem with dust or dirt on the lenses inside of the drive.
Take a can of air and gently blow some air into the drive. This will take care of any dust or dirt that might be on the laser.
Now try different games and dvd's. If you still can't get it to read then its a problem with the laser and you would need to decide whether you feel comfortable taking apart the drive to replace the laser or just get a whole new drive and swap it out with the old drive.
