TV locked in VHS Mode

I have a GE 13" television with the VHS on the bottom; tv works great; remote doesn't want to work even with new batteries....I had a Video in the machine and removed it after I had the new AT&T Universe cable installed. Now my TV is stuck in the VHS mode and I can't get the TV back on--blue screen. Any ideas?

I tried the buttons on the front of the tv, but none of them seem to unlock it...any suggestions? the remote is rattling--something's loose inside so getting new batteries didn't work.

i'll try and get a new remote...i think you're right about that...this is an older tv, but like i said, it works beautifully! thanks so much!

  • julie_chambe Feb 04, 2009

i purchased the RCA Universal Remote -- will control three devices, but of course, i have only two. RCR3273. I got it to turn the tv on and off and then nothing....i think erased that and i'm back to square one. frustrating.

  • julie_chambe Feb 04, 2009

    ok. thanks!

  • julie_chambe Feb 04, 2009

well, it's now flipping back and forth fron the tv and the vcr; the picture is fuzzy and i tried to put the tv station on "3" for cable and it jumps to VCR 1 or 2, no channel 3. weird.

You should be able to access all menus from the buttons on the front of the TV. If not, then you need to see if you can find a remote that works, and program to work with your TV.

You don't know at this point if the remote works, but assume it doesn't because you can not get any function to work. The VHS tape should have nothing to do with it.

They make generic remotes that can be programmed for a range of TV's.

If you give your model number, I'll see if I can find one.

  • Mark Egan Feb 03, 2009

    Here's a copy of your manual -

It looks like any generic remote will work. You will just need to program the code into it, which will be found on/in the remotes paperwork.

    Which one did you buy

Did you try to program it for any other devices that you may have in your house, to make sure you know how to program it right, and in the event there is something wrong with the GE TV?

  • Mark Egan Feb 04, 2009

OK. Sit back, take a deep breath. Close your eyes and think of your happy place for 5 minutes.

Now, reprogram the control using the codes given in the instruction. If there are several codes, try them all to see if you can gain full functionality.

If you don't, take the control back and get a different brand. You might also try programming the TV portion of the remote using TV codes, then use the DVD or VCR part of the control, and program using those codes that are given for those devices elsewhere in the code booklet.

Let me know how you come out.

    Let me know.

  • Mark Egan Feb 04, 2009

OK. It's not the remote that is causing that. Can you get into any setup menus for the TV?

Cannot get TV/VHS unit to work.

sounds like the vcr lock feature is on,

hold down the rec/time button for 7 secounds during the power on mode.

ushally goes off within 24hrs if the time is set. but seems maybe thats a issue.

try that see what happens.

and if possible give the model number of the unit please.

Quasar is made by panasonic and their guides and manuals can be found there as well..

No picture

I have the same TV. My best guess is that the remote may need new batteries. It might also be necessary to reset the TV codes for the remote (even it's the one that came with the TV).

Sanyo stuck on video mode

Yippie, I figured out a solution that worked!!! I have a univeral remote from comcast, on that remote near the bottom left is a small button that says (input) tv/vcr, press that one time and whala!! the tv video screen was gone, I had to manually change the channel from the tv channel button on the unit. once I changed the channel to 3, my universal remote worked... the button is the second one from the bottom left... I was on hold with sanyo for a long time and just kept trying on my own, so good luck!!!!
