HP Photosmart 3210 All-In-One InkJet Printer Logo
Posted on May 20, 2017

My HP3210 will not scan documents.

When I try to scan by pushing the scan button on the printer I get a message that says refer to device documentation to troubleshoot. I tried the solution provided in troubleshooting by going into paint but when I clicked scanner I received the message - unable to retrieve image from device. Verify the device is properly connected & try again. It did work at one time and I had no problems. All of sudden it just quit. Can you help? The CD is probably at my office and the printer is now at my home.

SOURCE: There is no computer connection

If it is connected with a USB then you should try to refresh all the connections. Unplug the printer while it is on and then unplug the USB from both the printer and the computer. Wait 30 seconds. Plug the printer in directly to the wall outlet as opposed to a surge protector or a power strip to make sure it is not a power issue. Then when it is on and finished moving around plug USB into the printer first and then into the computer.

Then you may need to delete and readd the printer but try to print a job first and see if the same error comes up. I can tell you how to delete and readd but I have no idea what type of computer or OS you are using. Mac 10.4? Windows XP?

Can't scan- Refer to device documentation to

Try using widows paint. Look in windows accessories off the start program menu. If you open windows paint, look for open file from "Scanner or Camera". Most likely you can get the scanner to work again in Vista. Otherwise...try Vuescan scanner software. I think you can get a free trial period online and it should also work. You'll have to pay for that if you like it.

The printer scan button wouldn't work for me either. I had to install the HP Solution Center software from CD onto my Windows Vista PC then I use its scan document software button to do any scanning.

Will not Scan. Gets message..

Is it installed in windows as a scanner? Dont use scan button on machine try using scanners or document imaging software that needs to be in place on your computer, ie Document imaging in office or scanners and camera in windows, one sends scan signal from the PC, can use the scan button on scanner only when configued to do such. Scanner has software as does the printer both can found at HP web

oh This is a simple solution open up the hp solution centre icon or the hp director icon whichever your printer software has on the computer.
Then click on settings.
point to scan settings and click on scan to setup and on all the items on the left hand side select them and move them to the right hand side and click on the ok button or the update the device button and you will not face this issue anymore.
your printer software should be installed so that you dont get this error message anymore

You need to have "Scan" on your printer.
Insert what you want scanned where you would photo-copy and push "scan". Follow your prompts on screen.
