How to transfer movies from VHS tape to DVD.

I just cannot make this work, how do I transfer home movies from VHS tapes to DVDs? What wires go where and how to I program it, what buttons to I press? As you can see I am not very good at this stuff but can usually figure it out after a while.

Thanks, the guy in Walmart where I bought it said I could transfer the movies and there are some instructions on "dubbing" in the manuel. Back to Walmart I guess.

I hate being the bearer of bad news, but your unit is a dvd player only, not a dvd recorder. it cannot burn dvds, and so you cannot use it alone to transfer your home movies to dvd.

again, sorry...

Why won't the Sony controls let me click onto finalize using a Sony TV w/recoder to transfer VHS to DVD?

Is the VHS tape you are trying to record a commercial VHS tape (movie)? If so, it may have copy protection on it. The recorder is probably programmed to prevent you from making and using DVDs of commercial copy-protected VHS tapes.

I have Magnavox DVD player/vcr DV225MG9, does it record from vhs onto dvds? And if not, what do I need to get so that I can copy all of these old vhs movies to dvds?

it won't record dvd's its only a dvd player. only the vcr records
if the vhs movies your trying to record are movies like star wars and stuff like that it's copy protected and no worth the trouble. if it's home movies or something you recorded from tv they might work. if you get a dvd recorder/vhs player.

Can I transfer video tapes onto CD's

A lot depends on what type of video tape you use and where do you want to play the DVDs (CDs are for audio recording only). If tape is compact VHS then you can buy a simple DVD Recorder VHS VCR combo player and transfer across easily provided you have the compact VHS cassette module.

For other type of video camera tapes you will have to try other methods like connect camera with tape to a DVD recorder and directly burn the DVDs. You can buy attachments and software for PC but I have found these very cumbersome to work with.

I have a Magnavox ZV427MG9. I follow all directions in manual for dubbing VHS home movies to DVD but when I try to play the DVD back there's nothing on them. What am I doing wrong?

Depending on the procedure you may be pressing the record button instead of the D.Dubbing or Dubbing button. When recording from VHS to DVD you must first, load the blank DVD and VHS home movies, then play the VHS movies, then PAUSE the VHS movie when you want to START recording... then the only the you have to do is pressing the D.Dubbing button or the Dubbing button. If your VHS tapes starts to play after the Dubbing button is pressed you have been successful in Dubbing.

Do I have to watch the whole VHS???

Hi

It hasn't got a function called high speed dubbing or recording like a tape player unfortunatly cause the VCR needs to be able to read the VHS and if it had high speed then it would be like fast forwarding the whole time and would look really bad.

If you have any questions please dont hesutate to ask

Sony GV-D200 DVDs not recognized on the Mac

Hello,
In the description of the problem the software used to capture is not mentioned. If you are using a Mac 5 now you probably are familiar with the different operations of a PC based unit. Most consumner software is not compatible or cross platform designed. The BEST answer , if you can and are willing, is to gather the old tapes, use a software program that has "batch capture" function, viewing the tapes at a high speed. When you have all the raw footage in your Mac, you can create a new, uncompressed video story ready to go anywhere you so chose.
In the PC world, folks are not aware that the MPEG codecs lose a lot of information when fixed on a dvd. The information is "discarded" and cannot be retrived because it is not there! A lot of foks sent thier old home films to a "DVD mill" and then threw them away when the got thier DVDs back. There are PC based video production programs such as Adobe Premiere Elements that will read the info on the disc, then making it available to be reworked, but the quality can be heart breaking, like a fifth generation VHS. Perhaps Mac has developed similar programs and can enhance the components such as hue, saturation, chroma etc. If this sounds like a long complex answer well, yes sorry it is. I wish you well. If you do have the tapes, a local production house can produce a fine product for a fraction of the cost of even a few years ago. Graduations don't come around ofter. Again, I wish you good luck.
