Yes the slot for the graphics card is attached to the motherboard. It depends if your motherboard supports AGP / PCI Express cards.  For AGP Slot, I recommend Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 512MB AGP
The new Radeon HD 3850 AGP card is the first to bring Direct X 10.1 capable graphics to the market. Sure, it isn't the fastest on the market, but it does support 512MB and offers good overall performance. The card also uses a single slot design that is a big benefit over the larger double wide card designs.
If your motherboard supports PCI Express, The NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GSO GPU offers a powerfully immersive entertainment experience designed for extreme high-definition gaming and video playback. Play the hottest DirectX 10 games with awesome speed and watch the latest HD DVD and Blu-ray movies with brilliant clarity. Featuring next generation GeForce and PureVideo HD technologies, the GeForce 9600 GSO GPU puts amazing graphics performance within your reach.

I'd really like to answer all your questions, but I need the model number to know what your system is capable of upgrading to.

In fact, I can even do better if you provide the serial number.

Any other specs you may have would be appreciated, but those two items should provide enough info for me to make some good recommendations.

Also, what are you planning to do with the system? What is your main reason for using this computer and why do you need to upgrade the video?

Which model is it so I can find the type of graphics card you can use without bottlenecking it which would be a waste of money.

I will tell you the right card for your system when I get home from work. The ATI one you were provided with will most likely bottleneck your system so I would stay away from that for now.

Alright llayer, after extensive looking I have found the best match for you without bottlenecking your computer. This would be the SAPPHIRE 100175L Radeon X1650PRO 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Video Card which you can buy here for $59.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as... .
I do recommend though if you already have not that you upgrade your 256 MB PC133 SDRAM to atleast 1GB to prevent any possible bottlenecking. This Video card will support your Power Supply perfectly and wont kill your system like the HD 3850. It may be well worth your while though to purchase a new cheap system for about $500 dollars which will perform way better and will be easily upgradable. Tell me if you need any more information or other suggestions on a new video card or RAM.

Google earth says i don't have a graphics card

You may have an onboard graphics controller built into the motherboard and not a PCIe board physically connected to a slot dependent card. Google requires a High definition video processor to replicate Google Earth photos. The resolution needs to be approximately 1600 Pixels x 1200 Pixels or greater. You can get an inexpensive Color Card from TigerDirect.Com, plug it into the slot on the motherboard and attach your monitor to it. If you can get HD resolution 1900 Pixels plus, the visuals are excellent.

How do I update computer bios

Hiyou do not need to update the bios of your computer (systemax desktop pc ) because the current version of your bios is still up to date. If you are having a problem and you want your computer bios default all you need to do is to remove the cmos battery for 1 minute just to be sure because the standard wait time is only 30 sec. put it back after 1 minute. automatically the bios will be back to default settings

depending on what you want to do you can just get a cheap pci or agp card find out what ports your system has if it will support a pci-e card or not then decide what you want it for like gaming go with a more expensive card that has 512mb of ram if your just doing the basics the get one with around 128mb of ram that will do just fine

I have a Systemax Venture computer that is 3 years old. Just developed a problem. Turn the computer on and after 20 to 30 seconds the computer shut down. What is wrong???

Hi there.
Remove all power to the desktop, remove the side panel, power the machine up and check that CPU fan is working, if it is turn the computer back off, get a clean, dry paintbrush and gently clean the fan blades and the metal heat sync behind the fan of dust, then restart the PC to see how long it stays on for. If this time it stays on it was overheating.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!!

Montiors shut off

if the monitor goes into standbye when you plug it into the computer , it generally means there is NO signal coming from your video adaptor.
Plug the old monitor in , if it works, ide suspect the new monitor(s) are not working correctly.
if it doesnt work , you need to restart the computer in safe mode by repettitively tapping the f8 button as the computer starts, before it says "starting windows".
If you have a signal on your monitor in safe mode, then most likely you have a bad or corrupted video driver and it will need to be updated.
if you have no video in safe mode , you will need to remove the cover and physiclly check that all add-in card power cables and memory chips are squarly seatied in there slots. MAKE SURE YOU UNPLUG THE COMPUTER AND DISCHARGE ANY STAIC BUILDUP IN YOURSELF BY GROUNDING (TOUCHING) SOMETHING METAL BEFORE YOU TOUCH ANYTHING INSIDE THE COMPUTER.

AFTER YOU CHECK THESE THINGS AND TRECONNECT THE POWER AND TRY TO START......POST AGAIN HERE

No Audio

Hello,

I have a friend with a systemax, same thing happened to him.

Go into the control panel, select sounds and audio devices, go over three tabs to the audio tab, make sure the sound default device is the onboard audio card. Should be all set.

Let me know how it works out.
