I have a GE profile side by side less then 1 yr. old. It started heating up to over 50 in Nov. They replaced the circuit board and now 2 mths. later it is doing the same thing. Heaps up to around 50 and cools back down and I loose all my food. The freezer seems to be fine.

Ok,I just looked up the GSS25JFMCWW and on yours and you do have the defrost that is built into the control board(It has jumper pin setting for the defrost timer that if not set, will cause this type of malfunction to occur)

The board may need replaced, but I would check the jumpers first.

Sorry for the original info,I was going by the posting category.

The only other part that controls the defrost is the sensor

My kenmore trio freezer is cold, but not the refidgerator is not, and there is frost and ice where the cold air blows in from the freezer.

Since Kenmore is manufactured by several different manufactures, you should find the model number off the equipment id tag and provide that so I can give you the best advice. It will probably be located beside the vegtable tray in that unit, but not always.

You have a defrost system failure. Your defrost system is made up of the defrost heater, defrost thermostat and defrost timer/control board (newer units have incoorporated the timer onto the control board). You will need an ohm meter to check the heater (if it isn't open - it is good) and the thermostat (low ohm reading normal 28-38 ohms) but the timer is a different story. So you will need to rule out the heater and thermostat before replacing the timer/control board.

Frige and freezer will not get cold .would vent in freezer being block cause this

No that would just affect the fridge.
Make sure freezer fan is working. If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air
check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

Where is the timer fridge keeps working nonestop

Most defrost timers are located inside the fresh food compartment and behind the control panel. Not knowing your Kenmore's model number really does not tell me if you have a timer or an Adaptive Defrost system or if the defrost is completely controlled by a mother control board. Sears uses a different model number system than everyone else so I would need the model number to tell you exactly what you do have.Older models do have the timers and I think they are easier to work with than the newer brands, But the newer brands save energy because of the electronics.
So explain why you think it's the timer. Are temperatures increasing inside the fresh food compartment and the freezer? Is a layer of frost building up on the rear wall or on the floor of there freezer compartment? I am going to send some photos in a few minutes and try to help you find out what's going on with your refrigerator, Sea Breeze

Freezer and frige not that cold

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp ..
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

Frige is warm but freezer is fine! Kenmore Stainless 596.72913200

Hello , I can help. You can ohm the heater out to ensure its ok it should read very low res. less than 20 probably , you would be lucky to have a defrost timer in this unit most of these now have electronic defrost control boards that fail often , to find out which one you have take the control cover in the upper/fresh food settings area at top off and there should be a 3" by 4" small control board or a def. timer that's white or black with a harness connected to it that has 4 wires.

If you have a def. timer there is a dial you can turn until it clicks once and set it to defrost to test the cycle , if the defrost is working at this point this means the timer has quit and is not timing any longer you will need to replace the defrost timer.

If you have a control board this is most commonly the problem , replace the defrost board and you should be good to go. If you have any problems let me know , good luck. Phil
