That control knob may be the culprit. The wiring could be faulty there and needs looking at. The connection from within the switch may not be very clean (good contact).

My maytag dependable care plus electric dryer doesn't shut off

Does the timer move when it's almost ready to shut off if not most likely need a timer. Can you turn it by hand to finish the cycle and shut it off. If not must be timer.
Hope this helps

Electric Dryer Shuts Off

During the auto-drying cycle, the moisture sensor could be the problem.

If it also shuts off prematurely during the timed cycle, the operating thermostat could be turning the heaters off before the machine reaches operating temperature. Another possibility is that the operating thermostat does not turn off the heaters at all. When the machine heats up, it gets too hot and the high limit thermostat turns the dryer off.

Front load MDE2400AZW takes forever to dry stuff. A regular load takes 1 1/2 hrs to dry,but the heat is on, and it seems to work.

Make sure the lint trap in the door is clean. It has a plastic cover that opens. Disconnect the venting at the rear and run a load, if it works you have a restriction in the hose after the dryer or in the wall past the hose.

Dryer seems to be operating properly, it heats up, but the clothes aren't getting dry. I noticed the lint collector isn't collecting much lint, is it possibly the blower?

Could be a stripped blower wheel. Remove the front panel. Rotate the blower wheel and look for loose movement on the motor shaft. If that does not work, turn the dryer on with a NO HEAT setting and run it. See if the blower wheel is slipping. If the blower is OK,check the exhaust vent for blockage.

Problems with Maytag PYE4558A not heating properly

Call the dealer, tell them to come and fix the dryer or take it back to their store, whichever they want. If they give you a hassle tell them you are going to call the Better Business Bureau and the State Attorney General.

sounds like you have a restricted vent . check not only the hose but also the house venting. usually clogged at the screen or flapper outside. another ppular place for a buildup is the inlet under the lint screen. without proper airflow lint collects on element. take care of the quickly as it could lead to a fire.
