Wind bobbin on Decor Excel 5018

I always forget how to wind my bobbin on the Decor Excel 5018, does anyone know how or know where I might find instructions? I think I have the thread lined up properly, put when I press the foot, the needle moves so I know I'm doing something wrong.
Thank you.

Once you have the thread guided and the bobbin is on the thread winder spindle, push the bobbin to the right.  The machine will not sew again until the spindle is in the left position.

if your talking about the feed dogs that they are not up and the fabric is not being feed, then check in your manual to see if you can manually move the feed dogs to the up position so the sewing machine will sew. here is a link for a manual if you don't have one
http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/instruction-manual-janome-decor-excel-5018.aspx
if the information about the feed dogs is not in the manual then you'll have to contact a sewing machine repair shop about having the feed dogs checked to see if there is somthing wrong with them.

I am having a problem with my Janome Decor Excel 5018. It was working fine, until the bobbin thread won't gather with the top thread. And the top thread is binding up underneath the fabric. Kim

try a new needle

rethread the machine top & bobbin, that way you make sure the thread is not caught anywhere

make sure the bobbin is correctly inserted in the machine

clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for loose thread & lint

always keep a long thread tail of 3 to 5 inches long, & keep the tails pulled back behind the needle
before sewing

if none of these things help the problem,, then it may need to be serviced

I can't seem to get the tension right when sewing. The top tension looks okay however the bottom is loose

If the bottom looks loose then this is usually a problem with top threading so rethread the machine and check that the thread has gone through the tension discs. Lower the pressure foot and pull gently on the thread just before the needle and feel if it is under tension. Is the top tension device set to the middle number setting? usually 5? Unthread the top path, turn the dial to 0 and run the edge of a piece of fabric through the tension discs to clean them. Thread shreds particles of dye and fine thread pieces as you sew so this area needs cleaning regularly.

Also a good idea to check the bobbin thread is under tension correctly and that the bobbin is in the correct way. On my Janome the bobbin thread winds off so that the bobbin turns in an anti-clockwise direction. Mine has a clear bobbin cover with a threading image to remind me of this but check yours and the manual if you have it. Janome bobbins are same top and bottom, usually clear plastic so it is easy to get it wrong sometimes.

Check out www.sewing.about.com for some good general advice on sewing machine threading and maintenance, it pays to always clean and maintain your machine regularly, use good quality threads and change your needle for EVERY project, don't try and reuse them.

Of course, if you know all this and have tried it already, then perhaps the top tension device has actually failed, if turning the dial up higher makes no differerence at all, then could be mechanic time.
