Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 v2.0 Scrolling has gone awry

I bought the mouse with the Wireless Keyboard 6000 v3.0 in Nov of 2008. All has been perfect until last week when all of a sudden, in any active window that has enough information to precipitate a vertical scroll bar, the window automatically scrolls all the way down. Grabbing the scrollbar and dragging it back to the top has no effect since when i let go of the scroll bar, it scrolls down all the way again.
I've replaced the batteries, uninstalled and reinstalled the software, moved the transceiver to another USB port; all to no avail. I've even disabled scrolling in the properties of the mouse, and it then a) disables my wheel, and still auto scrolls wildly.

I'm at the end of my wits about this, and seek whatever assistance anyone can lend toward a solution.

Thanks to all in advance,
JJW

Erratic scrolling. Mostly down and holding it down. Also bought in Nov. 2008. Also, just all of a sudden 2 days ago.

This may not be a solution for you but at least it may explain the cause of the problem. I recently had the same problem - the scroll wheel suddenly began to go crazy, jumping all the way to the bottom or the top of a document, or randomly skipping around. The unit was still under warranty, and Microsoft sent me a new mouse. Since they did not require me to return the old mouse, I decided to take it apart to see if I could find the problem. I found poorly soldered electrical joints to the optical sensor & LED which convert the scroll wheel movement to electrical signals. After I resoldered these connections the mouse worked fine again.

    Thanks a ton!

I had the exact same problem. So, I disassebled my mouse and resoldered the joints you described. My mouse now works again and the issue seems to be gone. Excellent!

The wireless dongle plugged into the computer is on a specific frequency and you wont be able to peer it with a different mouse. However if it is a Bluetooth and not wireless, you can pair another Bluetooth mouse no problem.

To make them both work together you need IntelliPoint for the mouse and IntelliType for the keyboard and system no newer than Windows 7. For explaining incompatibility issues see:

How do I increase the range on my wireless microsoft 6000 keyboard and microsoft wireless laser mouse 6000 v2.0.

I have a Microsoft Wireless Notebook Laser Mouse 6000 that also has a very short range. The only solution I've found so far is to plug the receiver into a USB extention cord and run the cord toward the mouse.
