there is a waranty for this problem through hp's website. Search around here for this problem and some other threads should give you the link. I just called HP and they should be sending a box back to me, free of charge, so I can ship my laptop off and have it fixed, free of charge. Good Luck

0xd000001e and subsequent black screen

The easiest way is to hit F10 right after the Acer splash screen. This will take you into recovery mode on the laptop. Then just do the Reset to Factory Default. This will put everything back to the way it was when you purchase the laptop. It does this from the recovery partition.

Turn on goes to black screen

Can you access F10 bios - if you can access bios you have a hard disc failure - remove you hard drive - boot the system without the hdd and see if the pixie boot boot goes through - seen it before - your hdd is unservicable.

I want to take my acer 3690 back to when i bought it

There is no way to roll back from Vista to XP. If you still have an XP CD Key you can re-install using a windows disk of the same type using your code. All the drivers should be downloaded first to a CD from the manufacturers web site. Plus any data you would like to keep.

Hi there.

When you turn the laptop on, keep pressing Alt+F10. This should open the recovery program. Follow the on-screen instructions for factory settings.

Let me know if this does/doesn't work.
