Whirlpool washer leaks

My Whirlpool washer model LA5668XSN1 on the bottom right side mainly while using the permanent press cycle. What could this be? How do I remove the top pane to see if the vent is leaking?

    egraber,

As soon as I moved the clamp on the drain hose (the one that goes to the back of the machine) water was leaking out. What could this indicate?

    Egraber,

I had more time to observe the washer today and it is dripping from the right side as you face the machine. It drips when the tub is filling and almost to the top right before it starts to agitate. It is in large load mode. As soon as it is done washing I will tip it up to see if I can trace where the water is coming from.

    Egraber,

I noticed that there is water near the center, by a bracket around the semi clear white plastic tub area.

Do not remove the top panel. First tip the washer back. NOT ALL THE WAY. just enoough to see under it. you will see a pump. it is attached by 2 hoses. one to the tub and one to the drain. take the 2 clips off with the hoses still attached. tip it downward. Is water leaking oout of it? let me know thanks

do you see a hole in the pump. like a black bubble? yes, water will come out if you take the clamp off. what you want to see is a hole in the pump it's either on the shaft side or usually on the front side where you would see the black bubble with a hole where the water will leak out. let me know if the pump has a leak with the hoses still attached? if the pump has a hole in it or is leaking out of the side where the motor attaches(shaft side) then you need to replace your pump. You say it is leaking from the left side. Another way to find out where it is truely leaking from is to turn the washer on. get on the floor and shine a light under it and see where the drips are comeing from and follow the stream. let me know how it goes

the whole cabinet does come off. I can tell you how it comes off if it is not leaking from the pump.

  • erica graber Feb 15, 2009

you probably have a bad fill valve.it's on the right side. you need to take the cabinet off. swome units have hidden clips under the consol on the left and right side you would need a putty knife and push under consol and pull consol up it's kind of tricky. there are also models that have 2 screws onthe back side of the consol left/right side you would need to remove the screws and pull consol topward you and up. next you will see 2 gold clips you need to take those off get a flat screw driver push down and out. don't forget to remove the door switch. make sure the power is turned off. the whole cabinet should come off now. you will be able to see where the water is l;eaking from now. let me know how it goes

that plastic piece is apart of the tub. it's called the air dome. it sends a signal to the pressure swich when it is full of water. Do you have a mouse? because sometimes i see mice get into washers and chew the hoses looking for water. this also might be your problem.

It says "Control Locked".

This advise is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet front loader washers and dryers with a Control Lock problem.

This may or may not be an indication of a serious problem. In the majority of the cases, this is a simple operator error. Nearly all these model appliances have some sort of Control Lock feature on the front panel now. This is a designed safety feature that is used to prevent small children from manipulating the controls. The controls can be easily locked or unlocked by pressing and holding the following button on the front panel:

Whirlpool Duet Washer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.

Whirlpool Duet Dryer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.

Kenmore Elite Washer - Press and hold the DRAIN/SPIN button for 3 seconds.

Kenmore Elite Dryer - Press and hold the AUTO DRY LEVEL button for 3 seconds.

These instructions may not be all inclusive for all Kenmore and Whirlpool models, but they are the most common. Chances are, if you have a Control Lock feature, the instructions will be printed on the front panel adjacent to the button that is required to lock or unlock the controls.

NOTE: These instructions may also work for newer model Maytag, Hotpoint, Admiral and Fridgidaire model front loaders as well. Refer to your owner's manual or front panel for instructions pertaining to your sepcific model.

If the Control Lock feature will not lock or unlock the appliance, unplugging the unit for AT LEAST 30 minutes is recommended in order to reset the main control board. In many cases this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches.

Kenmore top loader automatic washer problem

First, see the Sears Parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.92272100&pathTaken=partSearch

Then see the Whirlpool / Kenmore Service manual for these washers.

It does sound like a Timer problem BUT, before replacing it I'd test it using the Service Manual procedures AND:

Often the problem can be an intermittent Lid Switch malfunction.

Newer model Whirlpool / Kenmore washers use a Lid Switch as a safety device. Unless the switch senses that the lid on the washer is closed, the washer will neither agitate nor spin.

Older models only used the switch during the spin cycle.

Try to bypass the Lid Switch by removing the Console and jumping the two outermost pins on the switch.

To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using an short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.

Following is a description of how to gain access to the console and how to remove the cabinet if necessary.

With the jumper in place, try to re-start the washer.

If it works, the Lid Switch is a relatively inexpensive part and only requires you to access the console and remove the cabinet.

Whirlpool washer leak

Regarding those Cabrio washers that are leaking, while I own the WTW6600 model and have never experienced any leaking, I was told by the service repairman who came out yesterday that there was a flash bulletin sent out by Whirlpool that the fix is in the form of a new inner plastic section. I don't know the technical terms but I saw the bulletin on his computer screen. He mentioned that some people had reported that water was on the left side front of the floor and was being caused by when the water flows through the top section where you pour the liquid detergent, on some models, the water would splash over. He was able to show me the redesigned piece that was being put in to replace those that have the problem. If you are experiencing a problem with water leaking from the unit, and it appears to be in the front, left side area, this could be something covered under that service bulletin.
