but if i plug my router up the internet wont work

  • DjiffaLB Feb 03, 2009

I unplugged my computer system and put it back together and now my Linksys WRT54G doesn't work. I tried the //192.168.1.1 and it will not pull up anything. I turned off the firewall and the logon page came up but did not accept "admin" as the password. I'm very frustrated that nothing I do seems to work. I tried downloading the software from Linksys and there is no executable file for setup. I'm using a different computer than what the router was originally installed on. Can anyone offer help. Any suggestion will do. Thanks! CDJ

You don't need any special software, only a browser. Just type the following URL:
http://192.168.1.1
You need to be wired to the router (unless your WiFi setup is working OK).

Got new router and new computer cant seem to be able to hook it up with the router up stairs and computer down stairs

Are you having a modem that connects to a router, then from that router to another router? Well, you can't have a router's WAN as another router's LAN. It just doesn't work that way, you will need a switch for that. Or you can connect all of the computers to one route.

If you are only using one router, then have you try pushing the reset button on the back of that router? Or maybe you need the LAN drivers for your computer? If they are brand new, you shouldn't experience any problems, so you should return it instead.

I lost my pass phrase and cant hook up my new laptop without it ,my router is working fine on the other computers but I just moved and can't find my notebook with password or phrase in it.....how can I...

Are you saying you cannot access your router page like 192.168.0.1 or are you saying your forget your WEP key for wireless?
If you cannot Access your Router page Then a hard reset in order and there should be a black button somewhere on the back you can press and it should reset to system defaults, the password should be admin
If you dont remember your Wep key, go to your Router Page open it up And turn off the Internet security then Turn it back on while changing the password

1 of the 2 computers cant get online

Pleaase check if the PC connects when plugged directly to the DSL or cable connection whatever you have without the router in between. That would ensure the functionality of the ethernet card on the other pc.
