I have a strange problem with my printer. If I clean the crona wire with the pull out cleaning pad on the right of the printer 4-5 pages print fine the i get a gradually faded print down the right side of the page and by the tenth print there is a totally blank 1" stripe on the right margin. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have changed toners, photo conductor and can think of nothing else to do. Help Someone!!!

Re: Intermittent blank stripe down Right Side of page
Open the top cover, lift up the PCU lever & remove the PCU. Rotate the carousel (Toner holder) by hand and check that all of the toner levers are locked down fully. Check if any of the toner levers are loose and possibly moving as the drum is rotated. There is a small clear plastic flap below each cartridge, it is possible that one is fitted incorrectly or even missing allowing toner to leak past and fall on to the laser lens thereby blocking the laser and causing these symptoms. Hope this helps.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Not familiar with that exact model, but it could be the cleaning tab is not pushed all the way to the side. Some printers use a slider that cleans along the transfer wires which can be knocked out of position and blocks the toner from going onto the page. Check you manual to see if it has a cleaning pad?
Make sure that the corona wire is clean (use a dry bristle haired artists paint brush or use the cleaning pad supplied with the printer) and making sure that the toner cart cleaner / scraper is not clogged or has some paper jammed on it. Also you can vacuum the Corona Wire with a domestic vac and the nozzle tool or a clean soft brush tool but make sure the printer is turned off before doing it.
The "Cleaning Stick" is actually a little pad on the end of a flexible piece of plastic that wipes off the glass that covers the Laser.
Tip: When you are using it, you should apply a slight upward pressure on the end you are pulling and pushing. This forces the pad down onto the glass and will give better results. The little plastic rods that are attached to the pad are very flexible and should not break with the slight upward pressure.
Now for the actual problem:
You are getting the glass clean with the pad but it isn't staying clean.
The reason for this is that Toner (Black, Yellow, Cyan or Magenta) is drifting down from up above.
The usual cause for this (with the CX11) is that one or more of the Toner Cartridges are not inserted properly or that they were inserted properly but have popped loose.
I suggest that you check ALL toner cartridges.
It would be best to Remove and Re-insert them.
No need to completely remove the cartridges from the "drum". Just pull them out slightly then re-insert them properly.
Make sure that you follow the Manual Instructions to the letter ! I have seen some so-called "experts" remove/insert them improperly !
Resolving white, light lines or streaks (eliminate light stripes)
From the printer, print the Troubleshooting Print Quality Pages.
With Troubleshooting highlighted, press the OK button. Scroll to Print Quality Problems by pressing the Up or Down Arrow button. Press OK.
Scroll to Troubleshooting Print Quality Page. Press OK. Evaluate the Light Stripes Test page for missing printhead jets (missing cyan, magenta, yellow or black color bars).
Clean the maintenance unit's wiper blade and empty the waste tray. A dirty maintenance drawer wiper blade can cause white lines and weak or missing printhead jets. Using a clean lint-free cloth or a paper coffee filter, gently clean the blade with a wiping motion across the entire length of the wiper blade.
If the blank stripes go up and down the page (vertical) then it sounds like the laser lens has simply got toner on it. remove the toner and photo conductor units. Look for the glass panel that covers the laser lens and simply wipe it off with a cloth.
Some machines incorporate a lens wiping pad that can clean the lens without taking out the parts. I can not remember if the 1710 does or not.
