Grinding Noise when Washer Attempts to Spin

My machine started to make a horrible grinding noise when trying to execute the spin cycle.

Also, when my machine tries to empty it makes very loud sucking and gurgling noises. The machine started making this noise first, then started grinding on the spin cycle after that. I've read the solution to the problem of noises when the machine tries to empty water and it sounds like the hoses may be blocked by coins or something else. I'll give it a try.

It makes me wonder whether the two noise problems stem from the same problem - coins gumming up the works maybe. Can anyone tell me if there is anything in common here? Possibly getting some foreign object stuck in the machine that affects both draining and spinning. Could it be that coins were blocking the draining and then moved to another area that would cause the grinding noise when trying to spin? Thanks for any help!

BC71. Thanks for the tip. Another solution suggested that I take off the panel at the lower front of the machine and then remove the 4 screws from the plate on the right side. On my machine there is a metal plate across the lower front of the machine and a hole on the right side. No panel with 4 screws. When you say to access the pump from the bottom, you mean not the bottom front but to lay the machine down on its back and go from there?

Thanks for any more feedback. Think I'm almost there!

It is probably the same problem because it is trying to drain during the spin cycle. My machine sounded as though a chain wis clanking, the solution was removing a coin caught in the drain pump. Access the pump from the bottom of the machine. 4 screws hold the mounting bracket on undo those, the electrical connection and two hose to the pump. Undo three screws holding impeller to motor and coin can fall out. Examine for damage if it is not too tore up, put back together. Keep in mind that when you unclamp the hoses that water will come out.

How do i repair a lg washer that makes a grinding noise when slowing down from spin cycle

It sounds as if the tub bearing on your machine is faulty. To replace this bearing one needs to basically strip down the entire machine.
Not a job for a novice.

Grinding noise before spin cycle

Good Morning John,

I see that you are hearing a grinding noise before the spin cycle in your Frigidaire washer, model# GLET1031CS0. A certain amount of "grinding" or gear sounds are normal in a heavy-duty washer. If you notice that the grinding sound appears to be getting louder, I suggest contacting either the manufacturer or your local authorized technician for further assistance. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

Maytag neptune tl makes grinding sound and stops at 33 minutes in normal mode and at 24 minutes in quick wash mode

Hello djlampl,

With the lowest spin cycle setting I enter spin cycle in Quick Wash around the 21 minute mark. But first question is do you hear the grinding noise with the tumblers rotating during the wash/agitate cycle?

If you start a spin only cycle do you hear the grinding noise?

Does the washer error code out with an error code to the display? Codes such as dC, uC, Lr?, I assume the machine type is a FAV6800AW is that correct?

Any additional info will help in troubleshooting…..Rich

Assuming the machine type is a FAV6800A/FAV9800A here are some handy links;

Maytag performa washer grinding noise

Sounds like the water pump is going out on it. The part runs about $80 and should only take about 45 minutes to install.

Weird rubbing or mild grinding noise when in spin cycle.

It sounds like the bearings on your tub are going. This is an expensive and difficult job to do. (approx $450 parts and labour and you may do more damage trying to take it apart)
