Have you upgraded the computer at all? XP to vista, RAM, video or added a new hdd? To use a recovery disc that came with the computer the computer has to be the same configuration as bought.

Put the disk in and boot from cd when you see the splash screen.

as soon as its on, try hitting F12, it should tell you on the first screen when it flashes the POST screen as soon as you turn it on. usually F1 is to go into the bios, F12 goes into Boot selection, allthough it may be F11.

Then select " boot from CD" and hiot any key to continue, loads disk and you follow the instructions from there.

Acer Aspiere message says Windows could not finish configuring the system. How do I fix this or get past this

If you received recovery cd's / dvd's or any other restore discs with the laptop you should use them and restore the machine to its original state. If you don't have any such discs you can try pressing ALT and F10 while you turn on the power to the pc repeatedly to see if it starts a the build in recovery feature.

if you can't get the machine to work and you don't have any discs, you should take it to a professional to get it sorted, also if you any any important documents on the machine recovery may delete them from your pc.

I have an e-machine E727 that i need to reset to its original factory settings. how do i do this?

Try pressing ALT+F10 repeatedly during the start up, if noting changes, then you will need to use the recovery discs that originally came with the pc to restore it. OR take it to any local computer repairer and ask them to do it.

I have lost some of the original settings & don't know how to re-set as I don't know how to use original disc as no disc-drive

If you are using Windows XP and are able to go online on your computer, go to http://tinyurl.com/pcrestore and choose to run the file. If the system won't boot up, Press and hold the CTRL key and tap the F11 key repeatedly as soon as you power on the comp (on the Dell logo). Next, click on Restore. This would restore your system to the factory defaults. Please note that this process would destroy any data or settings that you have saved on your system, so ensure that you have proper backup of all your stuff before you try this step. Thanks - Abhishek

Will restoring my acer aspire 3100 to factory settings remove a virus that has been impossible to remove?

As long as the factory settings have not been contaminated. If you have a restore disc, that would be the best way to do it. Only problem with a fresh restore is that you loose all of your data.

If you own another computer with the same operating system, remove the disc drive from the bad machine and add it to the other machine. When you boot up you will see a D: drive. It is the bad drive. Use the antivirus product on the second machine to check for a virus. If you don't have an up-to-date antivirus product, go out to www.grisoft.com and download the internet security as a 'Try". You can use it for 30 days. It will find the virus. Then move the disc drive back to the original machine and boot it up. It should work fine. Once you do that, get the instructions on the "security tango" site and recheck the drive completely. That will make sure you don't miss any bad files behind.

Good Luck.

use the system restore option or download a program called system rescue and run that or format HD. The system rescue program will erase everything and require re-installation of windows. System restore will bring back to original settings.

Help

This means that the system is assuming you are doing a complete system restore to it's original set and condition. For this it will need to know where the restore backup files are kept for it to restore, this may be on a partition of your hard drive or on a backup disc that was supplied with the notebook, unless you were prompted to make a backup disc when youfirst booted up the notebook.
