Question about HP LaserJet 4050 Printer

2 Answers

I have an old HP laserjet 4050 which is on my home lan and connected to an old PC using Windows 2000. I bought a new laptop using Vista home premium and tried unsuccessfully to link the pc with the printer. After looking on every site imaginable, someone suggested updating the printer drivers on the old pc, which I did through windows update. Now, the printer doesn't work at all!! How do I uninstall that windows driver update so I can at least print from my other computers?

Thank you so much for trying to help. There seems to be no way to uninstall the HP drivers. I have tried every conceivable way both from the add/delete programs to trying to delete the printer from the printers folder. And, if I try to add the printer as a new printer, it still won't print. I am so sorry I ever attempted this. Now I will have to hire someone to fix it. I hate being computer stupid!

Thank you both. FRCS68, I spent 8-9 hours yesterday and have totally screwed up the printing on my entire network. I tried deleting and also went to the link that was sent and downloaded 2 drivers, added the printer again, turned it off, turned it on, turned it off, blah blah blah. Computers were not made for the faint of heart. I am willing to invest another hour or two, but then.....I am up for finding a geek that will come to the house and fix it!

frcs68 - Thank you! The printer is now working as it did in the past. The laptop keeps giving me an error message that the right driver is not installed. I have downloaded the drivers you suggested as well as the Vista 64 bit, but non work. I am going out of town for a few days and will try again when I get back. But, you are a life-saver. I am so grateful to be able to print again!

Unistall the printer driver (software) from the windows 2000 PC. install the old version of printer software on the windows 2000.
install the newer printer software from HP website. install it on the laptop.
you may have to disable the windows 2000 PC first.
make sure you have the same type of driver on both machine, other wise the printer will not work.

You need to download 2 drivers

one for the Old PC, and 1 to the New PC

this link has what you need,

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=18318&taskId=135&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=25475&lang=en&cc=us&submit=Go%20â»
