Dell XPS M1530 trouble shutting down

Hi My XPS M1530 has on/off issues in trying to shut down via the power button or assigning sleep mode or hibernation mode, It begins to shut down, then reboots itself. Sometimes the only way to shut down is to hold down the power button.

If anyone could help with this issue I'd appreciate it.

that shutdown method did work for me - the system shut down right away... now if i could only get Windows to work as well.

I have the screen saver running correctly. I have the settings ( running Windows 7) to Never both for plugged in and battery for sleep mode. The computer still goes blank after a time. Moving the mouse does not re activate the screen. I am forced to hit the power button to shut down the computer. This issue is beginning to re occur with more frequency. Wheat are your suggestions

Try this, just to see if the shutdown actually works.

Open a command prompt and enter the following:

shutdown -s -t 05

-s is to shutdown, -t 05 is a 5 second countdown.  Let me know if it actually shuts down.

DELL M1530 shutdown

I doubt the nic driver is to blame but might as well visit the Dell site, enter your service tag and be sure you have all of the needed and recommended files for this device on your machine. Next, I'd ensure my power settings are the way I want and then I'd run a check with A/V and Superantispyware in safe mode. BTW, is there anything interesting in the E/V?

My XPS 1530 will not shutdown, it only restarts

Try running chkdsk /r and then restart the computer. to do that, click on START, RUN, in the open field, type 'cmd' and press <enter>. A dos window will open. At the blinking cursor, type 'chkdsk /r' and press <enter>. You will get a message that the drive can't be locked and do you want to run it the next time Windows starts. Type 'y' and press <enter>. Now shutdown the computerand restart it. Chkdsk will run and it may take some time. Depending on your installation, you will see a blue screen that will show the progress. Sometimes the screen will stay black and the hard drive light will flash. That's ok. Let it run until Windows loads. Wait until it is completely loaded and then try shutting it down normally.

Good luck and let me know how it works out.
