Question about Nikon Coolpix S550 10 Megapixel Digital Camera (Cool Blue) with 5x Optical Zoom + Card Reader + Niko

Open Question

Nikon Coolpix 995 gets a CF.Er and does not shoot any pix anymore

"This card cannot be used" is a message that I get everytime I turn my camera on and I have tried 3 different memory cards, even an empty one, did not make a difference one way or the other, the problem started gradually so it still would shoot sometimes for a while and then now it does not want to shoot at all. The CF.Er message is in the top right hand corner of Control Panel and the other message "This CF card cannot be read" or "This card cannot be used" shows up on the monitor. Sometimes I can still view pictures in the view mode but cannot shoot any new pix in the A or M mode. I do not think its the battery it can still be fully charged and I tried the AC adapter. It does give it more power so it will temporarily load and then suddenly get the 'This card cannot be read' message again with an Err code in the right hand bottow corner of the Control Panel blinking.

Observe the connector inside camera, using a flashlight. If there is a bent pin take the camera to service immediately. Don't turn it on any more as we did in one similar case - creating a short circuit that damaged the camera electronics and voided the warranty.

If no visible problems, remove battery and leave it out overnight.

So it seems that only 128 Mb is officially supported, however elarger cards may be OK but you would need to try, don't forget to format the new card in the camera. You may find a friendly high street shop that will let you try various card to see.

SOURCE: "CF CARD CANNOT BE USED"

If you are not able to find your connecting cable. Well what you can do is you can take out the memory card and fix it into the card reader (you will get a card reader vey cheap anywhere.). and connect it to your comp. Now your card will work as a flash drive and format the card once.
May be you got a corrupted card. Hope this helps you out.. :))

Hello there, for transferring media from the memory card to your computer it is much better to remove the memory card from the camera slot and use a card reader as the operating system of your computer will detect it as new media found and you can easily drag and drop the files you want to utilize and will save battery on your camera as well.

I got message "system error

Having a "System Error" message display on the camera's LCD display generally indicates a problem where the camera will need to come to Nikon for repair. A System Error is a general error which can be caused by many things: lens problem, CF Card problem, general camera failure, etc. Before sending the camera in, check these:
  1. Use the memory card that originally came with the camera (or a Nikon approved card) [/*]
  2. Remove and replace the battery [/*]

New 4GB CF card for E5400, camera gives 'out of memory' message

So far as I am aware, the 5400 will support only up to 2GB cards. As to the firmware upgrade you mention, I don't recall that that has any bearing on the max. card capacity; but it's worth doing for the RAW format support (for me, at least). Cheers and good shooting. Davo, Tas.

Coolpix 995 CF Card error

My Nikon 995 began having trouble communicating with the CF card. At first it was intermittent then later there was nothing. After a couple of years of non-use, I decided to open it up to see if there was anything obvious. If I destroyed the camera in the process, no big loss. All the card slot pins were there and non were bent or coroded. Removing the drive, I could see under a microscope about half the pins on one side solder connections had broken. I assume from the repeated insertion and extraction of the card. (I use a card r/w drive in my pc instead of an interface cable to the camera). After I reflowed the pin solder connections and re-assembled the camera, all is good again.

You should know the disassembly/assembly of the camera is complex, and tedious. The connector pins are very small. I repaired the pin solder connections using a small high quality soldering iron while looking through a microscope. Witthout the scope, I couldn't even tell the connections were bad much less be able to repair them.

Need usb cord for coolpix 775 older digital camera

I would just get a USB mulit card reader with a CF port instead.

The Coolpix 775 shoots in JPEG format, so if you are using a PC or Mac this method will work fine.

Nikon coolpix 4600.

Hi I found this info on the Nikon Australia website:

"System Error" or "Lens Error" message in LCD monitor trnsp.gif Question My COOLPIX camera displays a "System Error" or "Lens Error" message. What should I do? trnsp.gif Answer Having a "System Error" or "Lens Error" message displayed on the camera's LCD monitor would generally indicate that your camera needs servicing. A System Error is a general error which can be caused by many things: lens problem, CF Card problem, general camera failure, etc. To troubleshoot, please try the following:
  1. Use the memory card that originally came with your camera (or a Nikon approved card).
  2. Remove and replace the battery.
On the other hand, a Lens Error generally means that an error has occured during the lens operation. To troubleshoot, please try the following:
  1. Turn off the camera.
  2. Remove and replace the battery.
  3. Turn on the camera.
If the above tips do not help, your camera must be sent to our Nikon Authorised Service Centres, there are no user serviceable parts in our Nikon COOLPIX cameras. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and we will do everything to repair your Nikon camera as quickly as possible. Click Here for our Nikon Authorised Service Centres details.

Seems you may just have to remove and replace the battery - sort of like a Windows Restart to fix a computer problem! - this would reset your camera's memory.

Hope this helps.

CF Error - Card cannot be used

Your problem sounds as if there's a bent pin in the CF card holder inside the camera. To fix it you will have to be very careful with a long blade fine screwdriver. Remember you'll have to straighten it in one go. If you bend them twice you can bet they'll break. A powerfull light to see the bottom where the pins are is needed too. If you're not willing to do the job yourself there's a guy on Ebay USA who straightens them. BMW
