Make sure all the spray bars are rotating good, that there is no trash in the spray bars or plugged nozzles, and that the pump inlet screen at the bottom of the dishwasher is not plugged up.

The dispenser works on water spraying on the cover.

If all the above doesn't fix it, then replace the dispenser.

Reply what you find and I'll help further.

You need to check the spray bars and make sure all is working correct there.

Spraying water is what opens the door. If the water spray is sluggish, then your right, the door opens during the rinse cycle, leaving soap on the dishes.

  • Mark Egan Feb 02, 2009

You need to manually reach in and try to rotate the upper and lower spray bars. They should turn very freely.

Then, you need to check that the nozzles are clear, and it's best to do this by removing the spray bars so you can blow any foreign material back into the spray bar. Then wash the spray bar out, making sure there is no foreign material inside the bars.

Water will spray into the kitchen as you described, even though the bar or bars may not be turning.

Please strictly follow our directions as varying away from our procedures may result in your not getting you appliance repaired, and your being unhappy with FixYa.

  • Mark Egan Feb 02, 2009

Did you remove and check both spray bars, and, did you go ahead and wash them out to make sure there was not trash in them?

Close the door with the spray bars removed, and turn the unit on momentarily, long enough for the pump to pump water through the system.

Is, after you close the soap door, the door hard to open if you try to pull is open?

  • Mark Egan Feb 02, 2009

Is the dishwasher an Asko, or what make of dishwasher is it? I cannot find the listed model number on Asko's website.

  • Mark Egan Feb 02, 2009

1st, when you have used he dishwasher in the past, has the door been open when you go to unload the cleaned dishes?

    2) What is your indication that the soap is not rinsing clear off your dishes?

    3) What type of dishwashing soap are you using, and has there been any change since the last time the dishwasher worked correctly?

  • Mark Egan Feb 02, 2009

We've had the same black scum build up in our dishwasher too, and I have yet been able to figure out what causes it. It's from the detergent, because that's the only common denominator between your's, mine, and other dishwashers I've worked with people on here at FixYa.

What may have happened, is that removing and checking the spray bars, you loosened a spray bar that was not originally turning.

Monitor the soap door over the next several cycles, and note whether it opens. If it doesn't, carefully check the spray bars to see if either are stuck. Also, make sure you have not loaded dishes such that the door cannot open (when the dish washer door is closed) and that water can spray against the door.

Either one of these will tell us what to replace, particularly when we can duplicate the action, or lack there of.

Let me know what you find out, and don't forget to rate me. And since this one is not easy to diagnose over the computer lines, if you would honor me with a FixYa, I would appreciate it. And I promise if you need any further help, I will respond to you (if I am not traveling).

  • Mark Egan Feb 03, 2009

Thanks! And if you don't mind, bump me up to a FixYa. While we didn't identify an exact solution, I gave you what to look for, and will lay in waiting to help until it is up and running.

I appreciate it, and thanks for using FIxYa.

LG Inverter Direct Drive, at the end of the cycle there is a grey -white residue on everything, interior, glasses, pots n pans. We use Cascade packets and Rinse-aid. Please help!!

The packets usually have detergent and rinse aid together, built in. If you also have liquid rinse aid in the automatic dispenser, you are getting a double dose, and that is causing the film. Use standard dishwasher detergent until the automatic rinse aid dispenser is empty, or at least turn the pointer indicator (located by the rinse agent filler) to the lowest setting possible to help somewhat.

Dishwasher Detergent Dispenser not opening

An automatic dishwashermag-glass_10x10.gif detergent dispenser door can become stuck for a few different reasons. Some problems are easy to fix, while some require more work. Repairs are basically the same no matter what brand of automatic dishwasher you have, although specific parts might be required. Fortunately, even if the detergent dispenser needs to be replaced, the problem is not an emergency. The dishwasher will clean dishes fine even with a stuck detergent dispenser.
Fixing a Stuck Automatic Dishwasher Detergent Dispenser
  1. Step 1 Move the basket that holds silverware as far from the detergent dispenser as possible, or make sure no tall items are blocking the dispenser. Also, keep other items such as plates and pans away from the dispenser. Anything that winds up touching the dispenser during the wash cycle can cause the dispenser door to stay closed. Run the dishwasher to see if this solves the problem.
  2. Step 2 Remove the front door panel according to your instruction manual, or find the manufacturer's instructions online, which will probably be in a PDF file. The panel is typically held on by 6 to 8 screws along the edge, which you can see when the door is open. With most models, you won't need to remove the screws at the bottom of the door, which are part of the hinge assembly.
  3. Step 3 Clean the detergent dispenser thoroughly from the inside of the dishwasher and the exterior side as well. Accumulated detergent and other material can interfere with the spring mechanism or halt the pivot action of the door. Use very hot water and a micro-sized brush. You also can use a mix of hot water and vinegar.
  4. Step 4 Most dispensers have a bimetallic strip or switch, attached by screws, which triggers the door release. With the front door panel removed, locate the switch, and push on it gently with a screwdriver until the dispenser door opens. You might simply need to adjust the alignment of the switch.
  5. Step 5 Purchase a new switch if re-aligning the old one does not fix the problem. Typically, these switches cost under $10. See Resources for a link to different manufacturers where you can buy the part.
  6. Step 6 Label the two wires connected to the switch so you can correctly reconnect them afterward, and then remove them from the terminals by holding the slip-on connectors --- not the wires --- and pulling firmly. Use a pair of needle-nosed pliers for a better grip. Then remove the switch from the dispenser by removing the screws holding it in place. Connect the wires to the terminals of the new switch, and attach the new switch to the detergent dispenser. Replace the door panel.
  7. Step 7 Run the dishwasher again to see if the switch replacement has done the trick. If not, decide whether to replace the entire dispenser according to the manufacturer's instructions, or call a repair technician.

Dishwasher's detergent reservoir clogged

I have the same problem...I think I mixed the soap types (Enzyme based with Bleach based). The manual clearly says not to do this.

What I did was brought out my trusty wet-vac and sucked it out while using HOT water to break up the crusty mess. I am going to fill the dispenser with water and add soap the old way until I see the "low soap" light go on.
I'll keep you posted if this happens.
