BLINKING POWER LIGHT

I have an HP Compaq 6710b. The power led on the front blinks steady when on battery use, but led stays lit when power cord is plugged in. After shutting down and unplugging everything, my led blinks steady and if I try to start up my laptop, the windows starts up but then freezes on the black screen. The unit will not start up properlly until I use the power cord. Ater using the power cord i can then unplugger the power cord and use battery power. I tried replacing the battery but this problem persists. This is an intermittant problem I've had since we bought the unit. Is there a quick fix or should I just return it for a new one.

When I plug in the power cord the green light in the back comes on and stays green. then the tower tries to boot up but will last 2- 3 seconds before it shuts down. Then in about 5-6 seconds it will try to re-boot but fails and ***** back down within 2-3 seconds. It doesn't stop until i unplug it. Any Suggestions?

When you restart your notebook do you have a blinking cursor when the system freezes? It sounds like you need to reset your BIOS. To do this, power off then on your unit, Press F10 to enter BIOS settings, and then F9 to reset the BIOS to default settings. (Your functions may be a little different but you can read your menu to see which function key to select.) Once this done, select "Save and Exit BIOS" This should get you going. As for the blinking light, sometimes this happens when the battery is not holding a charge. If your battery is new, try the BIOS reset first and comment on your results. I can guide you through the battery reset process, if needed. Good Luck.

When you plug in the power cord is there any lightswhatsoever on the laptop, where the plug goes in or on the AC Adapter of thepower cord?

When you press the power button do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lights constantly blinking, hear theDvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer of the DvD/CD turn on for asecond or two? If so the laptop is trying to boot or may have booted, butthe screen is not showing for some reason.

Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with thelaptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issuewhen you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous.

Maybe you have a Static Charge Buildup. Remove the Power Cord, Remove theBattery, then Press and Hold the power button for 30seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power cord back in (leave the batteryout) and hit the power button to see if it boots. If it does, you can putthe battery back in and let it charge.

Have you tried another power cord? If you try another power cord, and it still does the same thing, then I think your laptop is having a power problem. You need to take is to a technician to fix the problem for you.

Best wishes.
