Question about PC Desktops

Having used Skype for some time, the last version being version 3.8, prompted by my computer to update to the latest version I downloaded version 4 (BETA), I then was unable to connect with any of my contacts or they with me, my e-mails ceased to download or despatch, my computer would bring everything up on screen and give the usual connection sound, but then would do nothing, so I uninstalled that version in order to re-load with version 3.8, but having now downloaded, it will not allow set up, plus there seems to be a lot of my files on the internet desktop can you please explain

Thus far I have not resolved the problem, however I have now completely un-installed the Skype Programme, I have been in touch with Skype Support who are looking into the probl;em and then will get in touch with me, however I also lost the ability of accessing my e-mails and sending them, in order to recover from this, I have had to turn off my complete security, eg virus, firewall and spam filter, so I wait to see what the outcome is.

How do i play a blu ray dvd. I have put the disc in but nothing happens.


Hi,

You need Cyberlink PowerDVD software to run a BlueRay Disk. Normally, in Acer computer you should have Cyberlink PowerDVD software, please open the software and follow the below mentioned steps

To update the Cyberlink PowerDVD software:

1. Connect to the Internet.
2. Open the Cyberlink Power DVD application.
3. Click the arrow in the upper left hand corner of the window next to Cyberlink PowerDVD.
4. Click on Update Now
5. Follow the prompts to install the update.

Note: The update process may have to be repeated more than once to ensure the latest version is loaded on the computer.
Reminder: Blu-ray protection software prevents Blu-ray movies from being displayed on both the notebook LCD and an external monitor at the same time.

We're having some problems with our sign in server, so you may not be able to sign in to the Skype application or to your account as normal.
[2009/01/21@1746UTC] If you're already signed in to the Skype application on your computer or mobile phone, you should be able to call/IM/etc as normal. This is only affecting people who aren't already signed in.

Microphone not working


Hello.
1. Audio settings all versions

Skype:
Skype-->Main window…..>Tools -> Options -->Sound Devices-->audio device/USB/etc Audio Device (do NOT use windows default device)
You can also tick the ring pc speaker check box as this is a good backup to alert you even
if the main speakers are off or turned down.

Windows:
Start-->Control panel-->Sound and Audio devices
On the audio tab set the default playback device to your main soundcard (AC97/Audio-chip/add-on-adapter), etc.
Your installed audio device must be present there.
If not, reinstall audio device

2)Check if your micro (pink) and speaker (lime) jacks are really correct and fully inserted!
They sometimes stuck.
For test only you can use earphone instead of microphone for Line In.
Standard micro in Line In will NOT work.
Go to:
Start
Programs
Accessories
Entertainment or go to
Volume Control; right click on loudspeaker icon in Task Tray
Options
Microphone
Scroll down
Check "Microphone"
If the bar "Microphone" is available, the microphone is detected by Windows now go on
(If not, Windows has a problem with your microphone)
Just to check if your microphone is broken or bad, you can use your headphones instead. They really work!
Which one L or R is microphone now, I think it's L
Check "Advanced properties"

Check Micro "Advanced"
Open
Check "20db boost" or "1.MIC boost" depending on language version
Volume level can be left in any position.
Mute microphone!!!

3. Check audio now on windows base.
Start
Programs
Accessories
Entertainment
Soundrecorder

4. Once done, test with Skype Test Call echo123.

Pinnacle Studio Plus version 10 Keeps Crashing


If you are getting any type of error message or warning message (except a fatal crash message), then , click here to see the FAQ titled "Studio Launch error/warning messages" to resolve these issues. For a fatal crash or any type of lockup/freezing while launching, continue with this FAQ, below.
If Studio was launching for some period of time and then it stopped launching, it is best to try to determine what changes have been made to the computer recently and undo the changes to see if it has an affect on the problem. Here's a short list of what could affect Studio's ability to launch:
  • A Studio patch was applied but it didn't install properly
  • The graphics driver was updated
  • Hardware was installed
We recommend using Windows XP System Restore. You can obtain more information on how System Restore works from the Microsoft web site at:

Troubleshooting steps for Studio hangs or crashing while launching (starting)
1. RESTART THE COMPUTER. Try restarting the computer
2. WAIT A FEW MINUTES: If Studio still won't launch, wait a few minutes to let it finish launching. We have noticed on some computers that it may take a little while for Studio to completely launch. Studio 10 users click here to see the FAQ on this.
3. LATEST VERSION OF STUDIO. There was a launch problems in previous versions of Studio 10 that are now fixed in the latest version. When troubleshooting any problem, it is always best to be on the latest version of the software.
If you have Studio version 12, download the latest version here.

If you have Studio version 11, download the latest version here.

If you have Studio version 10, download the latest version here .

Note: Studio 11 patches will only patch a previous install of Studio 11. Studio 10 patches will only patch a previous install of Studio 10. Etc.

If you have an older version of Studio (Studio 9 or 10, etc), it is advised for you to update to the current Studio software. The current version is Studio 12. Click Here to go to the Studio 12 Upgrade page.

How to download and install a patch:
  • When downloading the patch make a note of where it is being saved to. We recommend saving the patch to the desktop.
  • Before installing the patch, make sure that you do not have any other programs running. Studio must not be running.
  • Once it is fully downloaded, double-click on the patch to begin the installation.
  • Follow any on-screen prompts to complete the installation. Reboot the computer after applying the patch.

4. SAFE MODE: Try launching Studio in Safe mode. In Safe mode, many device drivers and applications do not load. If Studio will launch in safe mode, then the issue is most likely a configuration problem with your computer. NOTE: We do not recommend using Studio in Safe Mode. This step is for testing purposes only. To start in Safe mode:
  • Shut down the computer
  • When you turn it back on, tap the F8 key every couple seconds until a menu pops up. (If the XP splash screen appears, the F8 keys was pressed too late so restart the computer and try this step again)
  • On the menu, choose Safe Mode, and then press the Enter key
  • Launch Studio
If you need help starting in Safe mode, you can click here to get information on Microsoft's web site
If Studio won't launch in Safe mode, then Studio many not be installed properly or the install may be corrupt. We recommend uninstalling and reinstalling Studio.

Recently i bought Dell XP 1330 with vista operating system. operating system crashes when i use skype with bluetooth hand free device(motorola H680) after 5 min.


I suspect you have a thermal issue

1. try cooling down the computer as much as possible

2. dissable and unused services

3. download and install the ALL of the latest service packs and critical updates

4. download and install any updates that apply to skype

5. download and install and updates for your bluetooth device

if you still don't get results
you may have an incompatability issue.

See lets isolate the fault...As u have checked the monitor cable is fine,the monitor is fine and the video card is also fine..I believe you have tried these 3 components on another pc and it has worked fine..Rit? Now the last thing is first download the latest BIOS update (Find the current BIOS version number,Press F1 when Pc starts,on Main menu u can find BIOS number ; From ur other PC,check the Internet for BIOS or ROM updates keeping in mind the BIOS version number u have noted down ;Download and install the BIOS updates to a CD ..copy the BIOS files to the hard disk, and then restart the computer with the CD still in the drive...That should work..2ndly,I would update my video card driver from the internet using my other computer in the same way..

I purchased norton 360 version 2.0 order no 1849616067 iwish to use it on my laptop since 3 month free useage expires in 2 days could you please instruct me how to do this as i believe i can use this...

Norton 360 2.0 may be installed on three computers at one time. If you have the product on a CD, you can install it on other two computers using the same CD and the same Product Key. Go to the section "I have a CD version".
