low battery or hardware error. three beeps-- that's important-- you can always call the company's 800 number and ask them what 3 beeps means.

Since I assume you tried new batteries, it sounds like hardware failure, especially if it was dropped. Try even newer batteries, or call the company to see if you're under warranty.
