New to scanners - BC898T - how to search

Just bought a BC898T. I'm not sure if it's me (and it could be) or if the scanner is defective. I've been trying to get the scanner to search in order to find active frequencies. I guess I need step by step instructions. The owners manual/users guide is not much help

Thanks.

To set up a search on the BC898T:
- Turn the scanner ON.
- Press MANUAL to stop scanning.
- Press SRC.
- Press HOLD.
- Select a memory bank by pushing one of the bank buttons (A through J). You can set up a search range in each memory bank.
- Enter the lower frequency (where the search will start), including the decimal point.
- Press E.
- Enter the upper frequency (where the search will stop).
- Press E.

Your search parameters are programmed. To search, push MANUAL to stop scanning, SRC to enter search mode, and the letter(s) for the memory bank(s) that you want to search.

I hope this helps.

My squelch button stopped working on the BC898T Base Scanner

Trunking is designed this way. You wouldn't want to listen to the control channel data, or you would never hear any of the actual radio calls. It sounds like it is working as it should.

I have a bc98t, and the manual direction to program a ctcss/dcs tone will not lock. Is there any more information that can help

If the tone will not lock in the search mode then that means that the user is not using tone or that the user may be using a non standard tone.

Bc898t all 500 channels are locked out. How to unlock all of them

Locking/Unlocking Banks When you are scanning conventional banks, the scanner displays the digit corresponding to all unlocked banks. To lock out a bank so that the scanner does not scan its channels, press the letter that corresponds to the bank. The bank's letter disappears from the display. To unlock locked-out banks, simply press that bank's letter again. The bank's letter appears on the display and the scanner includes that bank when scanning. Note: You cannot lock out all banks. One bank must be unlocked at all times. Locking/Unlocking Channels To lock out a channel so that the scanner does not stop on it while scanning, press L/O when the scanner is stopped on that channel, or manually select the channel and press L/O. To unlock the channel, manually select it and press L/O again.

How do I program conventional frequencies into my Uniden BC898T? I have Motorola TypeII Digital Tunking frequencies programed into Bank A and EDAC Digital Trunking frequencies programed into Bank B

Just go to Bank C or anything after that and start entering -- one channel, one frequency. It's kind of cumbersome to do by pushing the keys, but it works. An alternative is to use the BuTel software. It will simplify programming and give you Virtual Control of the scanner through your computer.

If this helps, please give us a rating. A "very helpful" would be greatly appreciated.

Program a uniden bc-898y

I can't find any record of a BC898Y -- do you mean BC898T? Programming is much too involved for a detailed discussion here, and you didn't mention any specific problem. Here's a link to the owners manual. It will walk you through the entire process, and I hope it helps..
