Question about RCA HD52W58 52" TV

RCA-picture discolors, goes concaved

I have a RCA 52" screen tv that is about 3yrs. old. Lately, for like the first 10 minutes after turning it on the screen will flash a concaved look and the colors will be distorted. It flashes for about 3-4 seconds and then straightens out and will do it again in about a minute or so. It happens about 3-4 times each time the tv is turned on but then doesn't do it anymore until it's turned off and then back on. Any suggestions to what might be the problem?

thanks

Sounds like a capacitor in the power supply is beginning to fail.Unless your good at this type of repair, I would call a tech to have it serviced. And I would also not use the set until the problem is corrected, or it could get real expensive to fix.

TV sets do last only about 10 years, the picture tube is going out, they are very expensive to fix so you will have to replace the TV soon. Good luck to you!

RCA HDTV MENU AND VOLUME CONTROL POPS ON AND OFF SCREEN.

My TV was doing the same thing. Someone told me to disconnect the front menu buttons and this worked for me. The board goes haywire. You have to take off the front black panel on the bottom first then the grey front panel where the controls are. Once you do this you will see where there is a plug from tv to the panel where the control buttons are. Just disconnect. You will only be able to use your remote for TV. Its a cheap and easy fix. Just lots of screws to get the panels off and on. Good luck!

Rca 52 inch keeps shutting off and picture is curved

The curved picture indicates failing parts in the pin amp section and probably some faulty parts in the scan amplifier sections. The set is being turned off by the uPC because there is a fault indicated, and it is going in to protect mode.

The set will have to be properly serviced.

What could be wrong?

These old technology sets (rear projectors) are notorious for high voltage problems, and this is probably what you have. RCA is now, sadly, a Chinese junk brand with poor support, but your older unit may still be slightly viable, but not very. Put it into a big truck and take it to a shop. Home service may not be available, or may be nearly worthless. Better yet, get a new TV. I suggest a 1920X1080 LCD model. (Panasonic, Sharp, Sanyo, even Funai or Orion are the best choices) Forget plasma, DLP, or any of the rear projectors. These huge, ugly (and mostly empty) boxes really belong in the Smithsonian, not in your home! When you see the new LCD's, you will forget about your old boat anchor in a heartbeat.
