After you place your floppy disk in the drive go to ''my computer'' which you should find on your desktop and double click on the removable drive(thats if its usb), If not it will be your ''A'' drive (if youve connected it by ide cable).

Floppy disk drive is just sitting humming,i'm trying to get some photos from it to my deskop

Probably having trouble reading the disk. Try another disk to make sure the drive didn't croak. Or you may have a corrupted disk. Floppy disks are notoriously unreliable. Hopefully you can put the pix on a different disk and try again.

If all you did was "select all" nothing is gonna happen. You have to move the files by drag and drop or "copy to." Computers are sophisticated idiots. You have to tell 'em what to do.

Need the driver for a SMARTDISK model FDUSB-B2 external floppy disk drive unit for a old Gateway Windows 98 computer

Since it is a USB device, does Windows 98 automatically load the device-driver when it is connected? If not, connect to the Internet, and run Windows Update (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com) and let it scan for updates. When it completes, look at the "optional" updates -- there may be a device-driver that can be downloaded.

I am using a Mac Pro. My SmartDisk Titanium Edition Will not read a double sided floppy disk. It will read a regular floppy disk. What can i do?

Windows XP "natively" supports this "plug-and-play" USB device.
So, if it is "dead", search eBay for "external USB floppy" and buy a replacement.

I have a SmartDisk External USB 3.5" 1.44MB Floppy

well you I&hash39; have got problems the first thing i would be looking for would be a bad driver to this device if you are having trouble with your drivers
here is a general look at the drivers and how to update them
if your computer came with a motherboard disc the drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x
right click to reinstall drivers or
if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver
if the problem still persists check the leads that attach to this device make sure they have secure seatings or just replace them they could be faulty from overstreching
hope this helps

Windows 7 does not recognize my floppy drive tells me to format the floppy

The drive is working properly (Windows has detected it), but when it tries to read from the media, it detects that the media is not formatted, or it is not correctly formatted. What happens when you allow it to "format" -- does it successfully complete the formatting?

Sounds like you have a bad drive or the disk is corrupted. Did you try a different floppy disk to see if the drive is functioning?
