Re: Toshiba 50h72 wavy and jumping pic/hypermodule part...
Most Hyper modules are no longer available from Toshiba. Hyper modules go bad due to problems in the power supply. Which also needs attention. We have developed a method of repairing the modules. We are a Toshiba dealer in Milwaukee. Note: What you read on the Internet is only a guess. You guess at you own expense and risk. A dealer assumes that risk for you and provides a warranty. this is a common problem i see at the shop it involves what is known as the hypermodule. there is a group of 11 capacitor.. these are surface mounted and very small and difficult to replace. in an ideal situation replaceing the hypermodule would be best.. but if if understand right this is no longer availble. 2nd option is sending the board in and leting a technician replace caps..3 and most difficult is replaceing the caps yourself.. i do not recomend this...i would recomend 1 and 2
this is very common with these sets. the fix is to replace 11 very very smal capacitor on what is known as the hypermodule. The ideal sitation is to replace the hypermodule. if you can find it. I can do this repair. I have done about 10 at the shop. if you need to i would suggest finding someone who is very experence in surface mounted repair
Just finished one of these here at the shop. There is a service bulliteen from toshiba on these. There is a series of 11 16 microfad service mounted caps on a cuircit board called the hypermodule... basically the main signal processing board. that needs to be replaced. very very tricky soldering. very dificult repair. We charge about 250 in labor pluss the parts
The Hyper Module Is Defective / It Is Located Behind The Jack Panel On The Signal Board.
More specifically the 11 16v/10mf caps on that board need to be replaced... Not expensive, I do them for under $100.00 dollars..
Toshiba has posted a service bullietten related to this problem. I done a few of these repairs at the shop. IT is 11 very small surface mounted capacitors. Very very difucult soldering. On what is called the HYPERMODULE. this is the main signal processing module. We charge 250 + the parts.
I gather from your post that wavy can mean two possible things as the TV comes on, you see the picture flow like ocean waves? In this case you may have 60Hz hum modulating with the picture, this is actually unlikely these days, but I have heard it happens sometimes.
The other thing it could be is light horizontal tearing. This happens when the horizontal frequency is too high or too low. You are not going to like my solution because I feel that for problems like this the set must be analyzed not just subjected to "shotgun troubleshooting", so here I go, Take the TV to a repair shop.
