Question about Canon Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera

Cf error on 350 D eos rebel

Had 3 bent pin on the cf card reader. I straitened them out and it still has a CF error flashing. The cf card slides in and out now and they look to be aligned pretty well. Also when plugged in USB to PC it shows the camera but no pictures.
is this resetable?
I dont think the pin broke from the board. But i guess thats a possibility. -Jeff

Hey mike Yeah the pins are there. Not knowing the pin number configuration i am sure I have list conductivity on the right right side bottem pin looking from the back side of the camera. Micro Soldering wouldnt be a problem with acess to a bench and magnified shield. However I do not have that option.

I am going on vacation to Myrtle in a few weeks. CAn i send the UNit to you USPS which takes about 3 days. and would you mind taking a look at it. I amsure i could do it. However the ribbon clamp looks tricky. I have not opened the unit.

    MIke,

My wife thought she could fix this better then us. when she heard i straited all the pins today while she was at work.

SHE broke off the pin 1 the longer one as i described earlier today.

How do we resolve this.. do you have the pin? ugh... I cant say anything to her since I was the one that originally messed up her camera last night removing the CF card and printing the pictures.

I would assume this is the power pin but not sure if it was actually needed to be longer. The pin is not in the camera or the cf card.
    Thx..

I have an old CPU processor with gold pins in it. that may have longer pins.. Let me know what ya think. gotta love.. The mrs. =)

Hi Jeff
The problem with your camera is very common with that darn old CF port. the bad news is that the cf card is soldered on to the main board and if that pin moves back just a hair it can come disconnected from the main board. And if it happen to rip up one of the connectors than your in a world of hurt. I repair these all the time and it could be as simple as soldering the pin back on the board "lets hope" I charge $90.00 to do that. but if your really good with a micro soldering iron and some good flux you can disassemble solider and reassemble the camera in about a hour or two. If the entire socket has to be replaced you are looking at about 185.00 or if you have a de solider / rework station and about two hours and do not rip up one of those post. main board replacement will run you about 250.00 to 300.00 give or take a little just depends on how much a board is. If you want me to repair this for you let me know. mike@digitalcamrepair.com

there should be some 1 or 2 pins higher than the others. I wont know until I remove the mainboard.

Ok well here is the deal if a pin is broken off that sometime is ok. the entire CF card socket now has to be replaced. as long as none of the traces are damaged you will be ok it just cost alittle more for the entire socket to be done and like I said as long as the traces are ok your in good shape. so let hope the board is fine and just try replacing the socket.it cost between 185.00 and 200.00 to replace that. let me take a look at it and I can tell you after I remove the socket if every thing is fine. I have a CF port ready for your camera.

The cf card for my XT will not go back in the camera. Something is preventing it from seating and locking in place.

You could be putting it in backwards, but you may need to look inside the slot and see if you have a bent pin. The pins that go into the little holes on the one side of the CF card. If so take it to a repair place its next to impossible to straiten out yourself.

When placing a CF card in the camera it displays error 2 what does this mean?

Hello,

Error 2 on the Digital Rebel is a CF Driver error.
It means the camera cannot write to the CF card.
Either the card is damaged or the card cannot connect to the camera.

If you have more than one card try another card.
If this doesn't work one of the pins in the camera may be bent.
This happened on a card reader of mine and I was able to fix it myself.
Otherwise it needs a professional repair.

Hope this helps.

Will not take a picture.

Bent/broken card reader pins. Take a flash light and look inside the card reader. There you'll see two rows of pins, 1or 2 will be bent (common problem).

CF Card not found

Ok here is the issues with the Canon 300D digital Rebel XT model of camera. First issue bent pins or broken pins the CF card reader on this camera is Surface mounted soildered onto the bottom half of the mainboard a large ammount of disasimboly is required. After removing the mainboard next you need is a desolder rework station. to carefully remove the CF card reader from the mainboard one messup and it might be easier to replace the mainboard. Sometimes. next issue is the power issue if you have no bent pins or missing pins, and the battery door is pushing on the door closure switch and the memory card door is pusting on its door closure switch then most likely you issue is 1 of 3 fuses underneath the power switch. these switches are the size of a few grains of salt very very small.I charge 150.00 to change the fuses and 225.00 to replace the CF card reader as long as none of the traces are damaged. if they are damaged the main board would need to be replaced and it is around 250.00 + depending on the parts cost at the time. If your good at soldering go for it. if not then let the experts do it.
