Question about Microsoft Outlook 2003 for PC

1 Answer

Invalid product key

I'm running a Vista PC. I am trying to install Microsoft Outlook 2007. When I try to enter the product key, it tells me that it cannot take the numbers 1 or 5 and I can't go on. I cannot enter the 25-character product that it asks for. Any suggestions?

It won't take the numbers 1 or 5. I've tried using i, I, but it won't take those characters either. I can see the characters as I type them. I bought the package at Staples for $109, so I just assumed it was the fully version. Packaging is Microsoft.

I tried to install Outlook again this morning using 7s instead of 1s and other numbers/letters instead of 5s. No to. Besides, the product key number only has 22 characters. So, I'm heading back to the store where I bought it and return it. They are going to have to take it back since it is useless to me.

I'm positive. I tried those combinations this morning, but there is only a 22-character key, not a 25-character key.

i'd like to post this as a comment on the solution, (great!) rather than a request... but anyway...

wow! i just looked at my windows cd's and found the same thing, not a
single 5 or 1 on any of them... i was about to post about the S, but
didn't think of the 7.... good job, HPC... i just gave you a nice rating for this, even though it's not a problem i'm having, just in case nobody else does ;)

when you type in the characters 1 or 5, do some different characters show up? if so, what are they?

    Hi spin...

does it specifically tells you that it can't take the numbers 1 or 5?

can you see the characters as you type them or are they encrypted?

The product key is in the form of letters and numbers

25 characters in groups of 5 with - in between

is it and OEM or is it the full version?

It should say this on the packing.

It will also have the product key clearly stated

I have just looked at a lot of my disks and not one of them has any 1's or 5's odd never noticed that before, but some do have 7 and S

Thanks Bruxy, it's just years of experience, in 1984 (probably before you were born), at my first job one of the top senior programmers at the tax office spent hours trying to solve a JCL (Job control language) error and asked me to have a quick look.

On the first line of their code I spotted an o (the letter) which should have been a 0 (zero) in thier userid. It was on an IBM 3081 with the old green screens so there was usually a dot in a zero.

A few things to remember :-

    1. Always ask a new set of eyes to have a look if you have been

    looking for ages

    2. no-one knows or can know everything

    3. You are never to old or young to learn

    4. Most problems are solved when the brain is relaxed, so when you have a problem, get up go for a break, have a coffee. I have solved most problems when sitting on a bus, train, eating lunch etc.

Good luck and keep solving :)
