Question about Sony TC-WE305 Single Cassette Deck

Speed of TC 355 Tape recorder is too slow. Rest of the deck fine

I am a musician and years ago, I recorded on this machine a series of very high quality tapes - they were flawless. I now am unable to play theses same tapes back on the machine that they were recorded on because thay are being reproduced at a much slower speed and hence the pitch of the reordings are "flat" because of the lower speed of the TC 355.Any suggestions and jow to slove this will be appreciated very much! Thank you

Seems this old model requires service and lubrication in mechanism and replacement of rubber belts, pinch roller etc.

Funny think about this model's design, when the lever is in the STOP position the tensioning spring is being stretched. After years of sitting in someone's attic in the stretched position the spring metal is now weakened. You can clean capstans and belts all day but without extra tension the tape will be slow and weak to drive. Parts are probably not available so what I did was dig around in my shed for an old small spring and was lucky to find one that I added on to the lever arm and stretched over to a convenient hole on the body. Added just enough extra pull to revive this old gem. Good luck!

I fixed many of these old r-to-r decks when I was at Sony. They have pretty much discontinued carrying the parts for this unit. Before I left the company, they actually trashed many of the new parts they had for these (the cosmetic parts have been out of production for many, many years). They continued making the heads, idler and a few other parts that were considered wear parts, but I believe those are gone now too.

Most likely, your problem is with the motor bearings getting stuck from non-use, you can oil it and see if it spins freely. Also lube all pivot points, especially where the arm that moves the idler to the motor shaft is. Make sure all parts move/turn freely. Rotate the play/ff/rew knob multiple times back and forth to loosen it up.

You'll most likely find that once you've lubed it and let it run for a while, it's back to its old self! Good luck.

Hi...
AS someone who repairs items like these I would say -- Find another in good condition. It would be cheaper than a repair.

Sony taperecorder TC-355 will only run in fast forward. when trying to play in any speed tape moder went into fast forward and would not play tape.

If the speed-controlled roller is not closing to pinch the tape when PLAY is selected, the recorder will play in a fast mode. You will need Isopropyl alcohol, contact cleaner, Q-tips a screwdriver needle-nose pliers and a steady hand to clean every moving part in that Reel-To-Reel and then lightly lubricate the moving parts.
While you are in there I would change the belts as well. Or send it to a qualified repair shop and pay $ 125.00 to $ 200.00 for same thing to be done. Take your time, it's just a big puzzle, make sure you video or document everything you remove so it goes back together correctly. Good Luck!

Kenwood KX-79 CW dual cassette hook up?

Just connect the deck via tape 1 the out of the deck going to the in of the amp. While the out of the amp goes to the in of the deck.

The tape deck itself will automatically choose the player that plays the cassette. One will play the other will be on pause (if you press both play buttons) till the tape stops then the other will play. For recording from tape to tape one deck will be the copy and the other the copier. There should be a dubbing button which you press to record tape to tape. Some models have a high speed dub also. For recording from the amp unless both decks have record buttons you will only be able to record with one deck. Make certain the dub button is not set.

Teac A 6010 reel to reel while recording my voice it echos my voice

You may be listening off tape and there is a lag of time between the record head and the play head which is what you may be concerned with. This is normal for any three head deck be it cassette or open reel.
Slowing the speed will lengthen the time of the delay and speeding it up will shorten it.

Won't record and play sounds muffled

Muffled sound is either damaged media (is it mostly the Left Channel? Multiple tapes or not?) or dirty Playback Head. Clean the heads and transport.

Please define better what "won't record" means. Tapes to be recorded need to have the little tab in the corner of the cassette shell present to allow the machine to enter record mode.

Recording Speed

the tascam 414 is a 4 track recording studio which uses standard cassette tapes- meaning they only play in one direction, because the tape is full. The 414 records at double speed so that recording fidelity is increased. When you have made a recording you want to mix you then dub your recording though the outputs into another standard tape recorder or whatever you have available, be it a cd recorder or your PC. So, when you listened to your recording on a standard tape player, you were not only hearing it at half speed but you were only listening to 2 of the 4 tracks. The other tracks would only be heard if you flipped the tape over, and they would be heard running backward. I would have though the 414 had a swich to allow it to also record at standard speed to but I guest it does not.

Unable to to dub from the radio, phono,or cd

As far as I know, you need to press Record button to record from external source. If you press Dub, it will start Dubbing from Tape-A to Tape-B. You might be need to press Record and later press Pause or Play to start recording.

Repairing or replacing old tape decks

Hi m522posner

There is a surprising interest in "vintage" hifi products these days. Your tape machines probably needs new belts. Check this site out. You can get spares for your tape machine here. Belt kits are $17. He does repairs also, but the transport to and from may be an issue for you. I suggest emailing Bob, he may be able to refer you to someone in CA > I could do the repairs, but I am in Australia. :)

My Sony dual tape deck does not record in stereo anymore.

Oxide deposits on heads can restrict audio transfer to tape. You may need to do a deep cleaning of record head. Depending on how much deposits are on heads may need no more than alchohol and Q-tip. Be sure to clean erase head and drive roller. Afterwards, try recording, then use headphones in jack on recorder to check for recording on both channels. If this works, problem is not in rest of equipment set up. If you still need help, email me
