Question about Canon PowerShot S410 / IXUS 430 Digital Camera
I have absolutely loved my camera, but I have been having some problems. When taking pictures (auto or manual), the LCD monitor is black. This happened once before around Christmas time, but it seemed to resolve itself when I took the battery out for a while. We had been outside taking pictures, and I thought maybe there was a condensation problem. But now it's black again. The monitor works if switched to panoramic or movie. I can still take pictures using the view finder, and I can view pictures on the monitor from a disc. Can this problem be fixed?
That is not a malfunction, if the "display" button is pressed, the LCD turns off, (black), but if the mode switch is rotated to movie or panorama, it comes back on but will go black again if switched into the other 2 modes. when in one of the 2 modes that show black, simply press "display" and the LCD will come back on.
FYI "GURU", the CCD malfunction manifests as a purple colored screen with various levels of distortion, not black

Do the pictures you take when the screen is black also show up black? If so, this sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should also fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:
