The problem is likely that the resolution set on your computer is not compatible with the resolution set on your monitor. The easiest way to fix this is to hook up your old monitor and manually change the resolution to the native resolution on your monitor. Your documentation will have this info. If that does not work then you would need to reset your CMOS chip by shorting two pins. Input your computer make and model into google for a motherboard manual. It will tell you how to do this. Then it will be at the default resolution and you can adjust it from there.

Have you tried booting the computer into the safe mode?
If it does the same with that mode as well then it means that there is some hardware issue with the monitor.
To get into the safe mode.. Turn on the computer and when you see the Dell logo.. start tapping F8 key continuously till the time you see Advanced boot options.. then using ur Up-Down key select Safe mode and check it out.

Monitor comes on for seconds and then goes black

This may be because the resolution that is set in your user profile when you log on has been changed to a resolution not supported by the monitor. The best way to fix this is by going into Safe Mode (press F8 as the computer starts to load Windows) and change it to a lower resolution once you get logged in. 1024X768 is a pretty safe resolution to start with. Then restart and see if that fixes the issue.

How to reboot dell E173FP??

I assume you mean like a factory reset? Most Dells have a recovery partition, press the appropriate key when starting your computer (when the text goes across the black screen), it's usually F12. This should take you into 'recovery mode'. Then follow the prompts.

WARNING: IF DONE CORRECTLY THIS WILL ERASE ALL DATA FROM YOUR COMPUTER AND BE LIKE IT WAS WHEN YOU FIRST BROUGHT IT!

ENSURE BACKUPS FIRST!!

The monitor is probably on protection.

To start unplug monitor from power and from computer and test computer with different monitor to find out if it is monitor or computer fault.

If it is computer fault and no video signal , then test:

  • Video cable.
  • Video adapter on PC (sometimes integrated on motherboard)
  • Motherboard.

If it is monitor fault , then the monitor is on protection.

When on protection you keep having a flashing led on front of the monitor , and monitor turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the Monitor goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or a broken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the monitor will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occur are a blown capacitor on power board, faulty inverter board, faulty input board, or a fault on LCD Digital Controller board.

Check also the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing state because of the video cable.

Try moving the video cable, and if the cable is not built in, then also try a replacement cable.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

Monitor displays Msg. frequency out of range, screen is black

Start your computer and press the F8 when the manufacturer's logo screen is showing. This will bring you to the Windows startup menu. Pick "start in VGA mode" and windows will start up with video settings you monitor can handle. Then you can change your video settings so Windows will start normally with your monitor.

So, with The computer, completely turned off, Turn it on, Can't you see the BIOS screen? , or a Dell LOGO?

It is when you see this BIOS or Dell logo Screen that you Need to:
  • PRESS F8
  • Press F8
  • Press F8, again, and again right when your computer turns on.
Then You should be brought to the Window that allows you to boot into SAFE MODE, DO NoT PICK SAFE MODE.

Pick: ------------ENABLE VGA (basically safe mode) Only!.

Once booted, log in and change the resolution to let's say 800x600,
then restart your computer normally.

You should then be able run windows normally, (Without F8 Key) where you can then change the resolution to what you want.

IMPORTANT! Remember this, if you set your display to a resolution that it Does Not

support, and the screen goes blank. DO Not Turn off your computer: ALL YOU DO IS PRESS

the (Esc) ESCAPE Key within 15 Seconds and your monitor's resolution will be set to it's

previous state again.

I Hope This Helps.

No Signal when desktop wants to load

It does not hate that monitor. I believe the problem is in the settings on your video. Your monitor cannot display them. You will most likely need to start your computer in safe mode and change the display settings on your video card or, alternatively, download updated video drivers. Also, if you can't get Windows to start in normal or safe mode, one of the options you get when you press F8 on startup is to start in VGA mode. That will get you in so you can tweak your settings, which are probably set to a resolution too high for your monitor.

Blank Monitor

Start pressing F8 at boot

When the Windows Startup menu appears, select ENABLE VGA MODE

This will boot the system in 640 x 480 resolution but the video driver will be installed. Once at the desktop, either reset the display to the normal resolution settings or reinstall the video driver.
