Update the touchpad driver. You can go to the website of your computer's manufacturer or go to synaptics website.
If you don't want to go through all the manual updating, then you can install RadarSync PC Driver Updater. It will do the work for you.
I hope this helps!

This could be one of several problems. The first thing to do is to make sure that the driver for the touchpad has not become corrupted. Sounds complicated I know but its not. Please follow the steps below and let me know if this solves the issue. I'm assuming you are running Windows 7 but it very similar in XP as well.

1. click on start
2. In the search box type device manager then hit return
This will open Device Manager
3 click on the little arrow next to Mice and other pointing devices
Your touch pad should be listed here.
4. Double click your device
its property box will open
5. click on the driver tab at the top
6. click on update driver (you must be connected to the internet)
7. follow the instructions and make the choise to search for the driver automatically.
This will download the latest driver for your PC and should fix thye problem. Please let me know the results.

Aspire as3810TZ touchpad stopped working.

Press the mouse lock button. Most times you toggle the touchpad by a button at the top in the middle of the touchpad.

Some systems will have you to tap twice in the upper left hand corner of the touchpad to toggle the touchpad.

I've also seen some systems where you would have to Press and Hold the ALT or the FN key located at the lower left portion of the keyboard then hit the key that toggles the touchpad. The key that toggles the touchpad will have the icon of a finger pointing at a square which represents the touchpad.

if all fails Click Start/Control Panel and look for mouse or touchpad. Go in and set the settings back to default.

You could try reinstalling the touchpad drivers.
Get onlineand got to In the google search box type: "AcerSupport" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operatingsystem when requested. Download and install the Touchpad rivers.

Synaptics touchpad has stopped working

ok.. so your touchpad (laptop pointer) is not longer working.

now. this may required to either update the touchpad driver or reinstall it.

try to reset your touchpad driver first:

1. get a usb mouse and plug it in as you need a mouse to proceed.
2. click start>right click my computer>select manage.
3. go into device manager (on the left pane)
4. on the right pane all the devices that make up your computer should appear, if something is wrong with one of them you should see a ! or ? mark next to that device, possibly your touchpad is the problem. double click and read the status of the device, post back with the code and with the problem if any.
5. for now you right click on the offending device and uninstall it.
6. restart your computer and your computer will reinstall the device on it's own, this should reset the driver for the device and possibly get it to work again.

alternatively go into star>all programs>windows update and let it scan your computer for updates, (now that you have the chance get all critical or important updates installed) once you have all important updates installed look into the optional updates for your hardware, see if there's any update for your touch pad and get that one installed first before any other (rule of thumb is that even if your have a whole bunch of updates for your hardware, don't fix it if it ain't broken). restart your computer may be required, proceed and test if touchpad is back alive.

another option is to check on your manufactuere's website, under support, look for your unit model and see if there's any updated drivers for the touchpad component, install it as directed by the manufacturer.

that should cover the most likely causes and solutions!!

hope that helps!

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-1232nr, the mute button and the wireless button on the top touch pad has quit working along with the volume slider. Any suggestions?

My mute button on my hp pavilion dv7-1262us stopped working after I updated my IDT High-Definition Audio CODEC through Microsoft update. The volume worked but the button stayed orange. I went to Device Manager- Sound, video and game controllers then IDT Audio CODEC. Click the Driver tab then click the Roll Back Driver button. This rolled the driver back to an older version but it fixed the problem. This is a Vista machine. Hope this helps.

Hp dv6000 touchpad - left button doesnt work - what do i do

Does the button actually click when you touch it? If it does not, if you cannot feel a "click" then the button underneath the plastic had collapsed and the actual button board underneath the touchpad area will have to be replaced. It is actually cheaper to just buy another palmrest with the touchpad assembly in place.

My laptop is an HP dv6000 and all of a sudden the scroll button on my touchpad doesn't work. The touchpad is still working, it's only the scroll button that doesn't work. What should I do??? Please help....

Go to the device manager and look up the mouse. When you open it, there should be a tab at the top that says device settings. Click on this tab, it is for the touchpad. Go through the settings for the touchpad and make sure that scrolling is enabled.
