Question about Sony VAIO PCG-K23 Notebook

Dim LCD display

Hi,
I have a Sony Vaio PCG-K23 (PCG-9RFL). The LCD display is very dim. I have tried using the hotkeys to brighten the display with no luck. Could this be the inverter or the display itself. Any suggestions you have would be very much appreciated!

Thank you,

The dim display could be caused by a faulty inverter. The inverter supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp that provides the back light to the LCD screen.

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. SONY VAIO PCG-61611l has a very dim screen

Normally, this is in part due to you not replacing it with what should've been an LCD. The reason why it's dim is because those diodes are not getting the required voltage to emit as it should. LCD's work under a different concept where crystals use the light modulating properties of liquid crystals. Liquid crystals do not emit light directly as LED's, because it stand for light emitting diodes.

Driver bright control for vaio pcg-k33

Hi,

I understand that you are referring to the Function keys on the computer. To resolve the issue download and install the Hotkey Utility from the below link:

Please get back to me for any clarifications.

The screen is dim and "sun" key doesn't help

It is very possible that you are losing the screen. The backlight is built into the screen and the inverter is usually very reliable. I would however most likely change both the inverter and the screen.

My sony vaio vgn-n365e screen is Dim

The fault could be a faulty CCFL lamp or inverter.
To determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
