Electric Maytag dryer won't turn on after burning smell

Without any notice of anything being wrong our dryer smelled like it was on fire and know it won't turn on. When you push the button to turn on nothing happens. We checked the breaker and it is fine. Could there be anything that we can do other than buy a new one? Don't know if it is electrical, heating element, thermostat, or any of those things related to this type of machine. Thanks we haven't got a clue and before we buy a new one we want to exhaust all other possibilities.

There's a slight burning smell coming from the dryer drum.

Some item may have gotten between the drum that rotates and the housing and during the rolling of the drum this item may be heating up from the friction. Check closely to see if you can find anything rubbing on the drum.

Maytag Neptune Dryer with strong "burned electrical wiring" smell

Sounds like the motor went out. Before trying to start it it needs to be inspected. If you are not comfortable opening up the cabinet then I would would recommend calling a service tech. If you need further assistance please let me know.

Neptune dryer

there is no transformer in the dryer, i am guessing you have a 110 v motor and when you hooked the plug wrong, you could have supplied the motor with 220 v that's why you can smell something burnt.

the heater is 220 volts. regular dryer has dual voltage supply. 110 v and 220 volts.

tnx 4 using fixya,

My Duet Whirlpool Dryer (had this #8519498) has burning smell

I am not the Dryer fixin' trade...but I have this dryer. To me, it sounds like it overheating or the heater unit has become lose from its hold rack. I would MOST definitely have a pro look at it and do NOT leave the dryer unattended...It may be a possible fire hazzard
