Singer 427 timing

Hi I have a singer 427 which I use for sewing upholstery/vinyl. A gear wheel broke so I replaced this and also replaced the motor belt which was looking loose. Since then the timing seems to be out and the needle sometimes catches the plate underneath. I have broken 2 or 3 needles and the cotton that is threaded through the needle often snaps when it goes underneath to the bobbin.

Thanks for any help

Here's how you set the timing od the Machine alright:
1. Take the side plate off, take the needle plate off.
2. Take the presser foot off, and put a new needle in the machine. 3. Make sure that the needle is in the lowest position and look at the needle bar for the two timing lines. Locate the top line.
4. Then, turn the handwheel toward you until the top line is where the bottom line was.
At this point, the tip of the hook should be directly in the scarf of the needle.
This should set the timing of the machine perfect....

SOURCE: I can't raise the bobbin thread. The needle raises before the bobbin thread can 'catch'

readjust the hook to just grab the thread loop as the needle raises it will take a few tries to get the exact setting for the hook (maybe you will see a mark on the hook shaft to show you where the hook's set screw was located before it slipped)

Hi, Singer 507, The cog under the machine that turns when the needle goes up and down has broken, what is this cog wheel called please so i can purchase one

Sounds like a gear on the drive shaft is broken.
You may be able to replace the gear yourself.
Otherwise, take it to a certified repair shop.

Singer Portable Sewing Machine 221 needs new pully and band

Hi. Oh yes, parts are available for these wonderful machines. Sounds like you'll probably need to replace the motor and the belt. Go to http://pages.suddenlink.net/joyof301s/glenn.htm or http://sewingmachine221sale.bizland.com/store/index.html.
Either place will be able to help you with parts. More great sites for these are http://featherweightcare.com/intro.shtml and http://www.singer-featherweight.com/ and perhaps my favorite, http://www.featherweight221.com/.
Hope this helps! This is my absolute favorite sewing machine. They are simple to use, simple to care for, and will last forever.
Happy Sewing!

if not under warranty, time to invest in another better machine, stay out of big box stores, go to local dealer and you can get much better quality, even if you buy used, plus they'll show you how to use it

Machine No. K1831(256) No.28 how do you set up the stop motion wheel to wind bobbins. It either winds bobbins whilst sewing or just free wheels. I think there must be a way of adjusting this action....
