Its most likely a heat issue

clean all the fans and heatsinks and replace any broken or noisy fans.

I have a HP Pavilion dv9810us laptop. It is about 3.5 yrs old. Since last 1 yr I am noticing that the laptop is becoming extremely heated when I open any heavy resource hungry application. Once it gets too...

If the laptop is getting very hot and shutting down then you no doubt need to clean the CPU fan and the air vents of any build up of dust that may have collected over the 3 years you've had it.

Get a can of compressed air and give short blasts through the air vents and the CPU fan grill. You should see dust shoot out of the vents when you depress the button of the can.

The CPU fan is located underneath that laptop and the air vents can be located at the sides or the back of the laptop.

If it still gets hot and shuts down after doing this then I suggest that you take the laptop to a reutable PC repair store and have them clean the inside of the laptop for you and have it serviced at the same time.

Hope this helps!!!

The life of my battery is too short..that's ;;why I always use my laptop with tha charjger on..

How old is the unit? On average if used only a few times a week good for 3 to 5 yrs. before no charge at all. As time goes on the charge will get to be shorter and shorter. If used every day and always plugged in 1 or 2 yrs the battery will be dead to almost dead. If the unit is not very old then quickly get it replaced via warranty from the MFG or the retailer who sold it to you. You can get a battery (Probably) from the MFG for around $40 to $75. You MAY be able to find one at or or ebay or amazon. Beware of the auctions, some bad people sell regenerated batteries only good for a few times then trash. There is a possiblity that the "Charger" is not charging completely. If that is the case then one of two problems, either the voltage is too low from the BAD charger or the "Charge cycle" is cutting off too soon. You can test for low votage easly with a simple and cheap $10/$15 multi meter. The charger should say what "Output voltage" it should have on the unit. If the charge cycle is bad, you need some one with the correct equipment to do a charger test. Walmart, best buy and others carry some generic chargers also. If you know anyone with the same charger (best if exactly same MFG, but exactly the same output different MFG should work ok also), you can use theirs to see if that fixes it, if so you need a charger.

Can't get the Cd/Dvd drive to work, Windows vista doesn't show it in the device manager, I have a n HP Pavillion dv6500 notebook around 3 yrs old

If the device manager does not recognise the drive then it has most likely failed. You should be able to remove the drive, one screw on the underside, and reboot, Once you have done this power down, reseat the drive and power up again. If the Plug and Play software doe snot recognise it then you need a new drive.

My toshiba laptop computer has very short battery life when it is not plugged in. It will also shut off quite frequently at times and will take a while to restart (it will turn on but it takes a few tries...

How old is the battery? Most laptops and notebooks only have a 3 year battery life, and if you have run it down too far, or never ran it down at all, the life can be even shorter than that. With nicad they say it is best to use them until they stop working. But lithium batteries are best kept topped up I hear. If the batter is over 2 years old, time to replace I think.

The laptop is plugged in and it shuts ze4315

If you are talking about the cooling jel that goes between the processor and the heat sink, yes, and the more the better. It might just be that the cooling system is plugged with dust ect. These things are like mini vacume cleaners, and seem to store all they **** up in the cooling fins. Blow the cooling system out with some canned air.
