I have cleared all possible jams; there is nothing inside the printer. However, the printer continues to insist it is jammed, and will not reset no matter what I do. The Paper light continues to flash.

not only will the light not go off, the printer won't work. i've uninstalled and reinstalled printer, turned the printer on and off several times, and the paper light is still on - while the tray is full.

You may have a small jam or a piece of paper that is still inside the printer.  You may have to look for a smaller piece of paper.  I have had this happen to my laser printers before and it was because there was a plastic arm that is inside the printer that came loose during a paper jam and it wouldn't accept paper until I reattached the arm and then the printer would accept the paper.

I saw this solution elsewhere on this site -
take out the toner cartridge; paper can jam under there and you can't see it.

Sharp AL-1631: Flashing H-4. Paper tray light is

H4 indicates that you have no power for your heater lamp. Either the thermostat or the lamp is open. For the thermostat, you can reset it if you know how to remove the fuser section and its cover so you can see the thermostat and reset from there. For the heater lamp, check its continuity using a tester.

Paper feeder

One of two things, There is a black plastic actuator that may have fallen off. It hangs down into the paper tray and is pushed up when the paper tray is pushed in. Remove the paper tray and see if you can locate the actuator.
The more likely problem is the sensor in the paper feeder, I don't believe that sensor is a spared item, I have always replaced the paper feeder to resolve that problem.

Flashing light

Here is what HP has on the subject of the triangle light flashing:
c00028322.gif 1 - Attention Light 2 - Ready Light 3 - Go Light Figure 2: Printer light key c00028323.gif 1 - Symbol for light off 2 - Symbol for light on 3 - Symbol for light blinking
c00028328.gif Door open, media out, no print cartridge, or media jam

The printer is in an error state that requires operator intervention or help. Check the following:
  • The print cartridge door is completely closed.
  • Media is loaded.
  • The print cartridge is correctly installed in the printer.
  • There is no media jam.

Figure 8: Paper jam c00028328.gif 13.JJ.NT JAM IN TRAY 1

13.JJ.NT JAM IN TRAY X

The Attention LED is blinking. Check paper loading then open and close top cover.

When there is a jam in tray 1, verify the paper is loaded correctly, open and close the top cover. Pressing GO is ignored.

When there is a jam in tray X, verify the paper is loaded correctly, open and close the top cover. Pressing GO is ignored. These are the error explanations for just the flashing triangle light, there are many more, but none for just the flashing triangle.

If the light pattern is different let me know (other lights on as well)
-Hope this helps.

Printer purchased 15/5/08 on trying to set up red light continues to flash so unable to print and proceed the screen only shows the language selected and fails to move on

Usually printers like to flash red under the following conditions:

1. Paper jam. So be absolutely sure there is no paper stuck in there, or that a piece of paper is not partially fed too far for the printer to pick it up as a new piece.

2. Out of paper, speaks for itself.

3. Wrong paper tray selected. i.e. you install the printer using default settings, but somehow, the printer is expecting to 'see' paper via an alternate input / tray. Check the printer settings to see if the paper tray matches the tray you are feeding paper too.
This one has caught me out many times.

Hope that helps.

Not printing

There is probably a paper jam in the tray feed path. The other situation is that the tray paper pick up roller has become hardened/polished, or the paper tray paper is greasy. First step, take the paper from the tray, and fan it out, so each sheet is separated from the next. try it with jut a dozen or so sheets, change the paper.

Thoroughly check the paper feed path.

If not working, then check/clean the rollers.

Error

1. Verify the following: * There is sufficient paper in the paper tray (at least ten sheets). * The paper tray is not overly full. * The paper stack is touching the back of the paper tray. 2. Slide the paper guides so they fit firmly against the edges of the paper. 3. Press the Resume button to continue printing. good luck :-)
