the laptop was working fine the night before. I went in the next day to bring the laptop out of hibernation. Everything came up fine, then it just froze. when I tried control/alt/delete....it would not work, so I was forced to use the power button. when it came back on it opened with a screen wanting me to tell it which mode to start it in. The only problem was the computer froze again in less than 3 seconds. Now nothing shows up when I try to start it. No BIOS page to direct it to a mode, no windows, not even the Toshiba startup, (the first frame you are supposed to see when you power up) is not showing up. It is like the fan and hard drive seem to be running, but nothing is happening. I use this laptop to do my college papers on. I can not afford for it to break now. HELP !!!

I foud a solution to my issue. I removed the battery, removed the HD, then reinstalled the HD and battery, the laptop powered up, I found an bios upgrade on Toshiba.com flashed the bios in windows since the old one was Version 1.4 and the new one was Version 1.9, after all that the laptop is faster than before and has much better response.

During start up does it give you any options to start it normally?
Try hitting F8 during start up to see if your able to get it to boot normally.
Not sure what "pach" you are talking about.
BIOS shouldn't be the problem.
Sounds like you have a virus of some sort.

There is no need to reset the BIOS if the Toshiba boots up normally.

How do i open the bios?

When you start you computer, you'll need to fit a key F1-F12 depending on your motherboard's model and you can access the bios. This F1-F12 number is usually displayed quickly before the motherboard boots off of the boot device, and it can likely be found in a reference manual

Bios display

If you have Toshiba Console installed, you can set your BIOS to the defaults.
If not, go to:

Failure to load windows

If you can try a different hard drive. And make sure the format of the hard drive that's installed doesn't freeze or doesn't complete.
Those are just the first things that popped into my mind,
I'm sure other's will have more suggestions.
Good luck.
