Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Elite Console

Scratched games, possible overheating?

My son's 360 Elite is scratching games. It seems to be getting too hot and making a funny noise when it is reading the disks. Would an external cooler fix the problem, or could it be something else?

How do i fix a scratch on my game?

You could try buying the disc repair solution from Game Stop I think it's about $6.99

My friend bought it and it worked just fine, as long as the scratch isn't too deep it should work.

Xbox 360 scratches the game disks

Hi there,

This is a hardware problem in older generations of the Xbox 360. What most people seem to believe is that the 360 should stand vertically, but do this and you will be covering the vents which let your 360 breathe. This is why you will see a lot of people bringing up the red ring of death, or people who have had their 360 scratch their DVDs.

My suggestion is to set your 360 horizontally. It's always worked for me and I haven't had a single thing go wrong with my 360.

When playing C.O.D 4 x-box makes funny noise.....

Laser burn, looks like complete or partial circular scratches around your disc, also known as “the ring of death”. This occurs to discs when the games console has been moved whilst playing, from an upright to a horizontal position or vice versa or simply knocked against or the wires may have been just tripped upon. Discs are then impaired by a ring of laser burn, which is a circular scratch into the disc. Some home remedies may help with very light scratches on some discs but professional disc repair services is normally rerquired to restore disc laser burn damage back to "As Good As New Condition".

For further help on Xbox & Xbox 360 laser burn disc repairs or to get discs professionally repaired, visit:

www.discREPAIR.ie

You can send your discs off to this Disc Repair Service and the discs shall be sent back as good as new.

If this is happening consistently without any knock or movement of the console, I would contact Microsoft for advice on your games console.

Xbox 360 scratching discs and making funny noise

A number of possible things could be wrong. The xbox360, if has been laying on its side could of overheated and the electrical components could of melted. This is common and in the manual it is advised you stand it up. Second reason could be the update, try reinstalling the update, this way its back to its default since you installed it.

Ring scratches on games

Here is an article writen in 2007 (I have also included the Disk replacement plan info located at the bottom)Please rate this a fixya. Microsoft admits scratch problem with Xbox 360 There are many sites on the internet describing a typical Xbox 360 problem: the console scratches game discs. Some users are reporting that the scratches were enough to make their game disc obsolete. There hasn't been much discussion on the fact that the problem exists by consumers, but untill now Microsoft has always somewhat denied the problem and never proposed a solution.
The Dutch television show Kassa, which deals with customer complaints, has been nagging Microsoft about this problem for several weeks, they did tests with Xbox360 setups and filmed (and proofed) that the Xbox360 is indeed responsible for scratching game discs, when not moved, placed on a stable table and under the best possible conditions.
According to the show, the majority of the problems seem to be caused by a TSST drive that is missing parts that stabilize the disc. The problem also seems to be mainly found by consoles produced in December 2006. Estimated is that worldwide nearly 1 to 2 million units are affected.
Thousands of people responded to the show complaining about the same problem and Microsoft simply had to act.
In a press statement the company stated: "As we were not involved with the experiment of Kassa and have little insights in the testing methods, we are not able to respond in detail on the results. It is possible that scratches on discs originate from frequent use. However, we have no indication that the results of the tests from Kassa are a large scale problem.
Of course it is important to us that our customers have the best possible game experience and therefore we take these test results very serious. Xbox owners who think their discs are scratched as reported by Kassa, should contact us. We will investigate the console and when needed repair it so it becomes a full functioning console. We will also inform Xbox owners how they can obtain replacements discs in case they require them."

My xbox 360 frezzes when i play games. HELP PLEASE!!

I recommend setting your XBOX down on a level and hard surface (don't put it upright on a stand). I have seen many disks with radially arching scratches (the worst possible type of scratch for a CD/DVD) that seem to be caused by some of the optical drives (DVD drive) of the at least three different ones that the XBOX 360's come with), and I believe that keeping the drive tray horizontal, level, and being very careful with the Disks may prevent the scratches that may be causing your freezing.
I have also seen freezing in XBOX 360 games for no apparent reason at all, I thought it may be overheating at one point and made sure the console had plenty of space around it to breath and that seemed to help. Since you've had yours for a year and a half (mines only been out of the box for 3 months, so the main board is pretty clean yet), it may need internal cleaning (can be done with static free canned compressed air, or better yet by an electronics bench Tech.). If in a smoking environment, the tar and dust combining is more than likely the culprit.
Let us know if you've already tried the above, and Good luck.

Dont worry. All this is, is your son must of tipped over his Xbox 360 console or he moved it, while it was on. In the Xbox 360 there is a default in which the thing that holds the cd and reads it is lose and falls onto the cd and scratches the disk, thats why it is a perfect circle. It happend to me the first day i got the Xbox 360. And also keep the Xbox laid down, it keeps it safer from tipping over and prevents it from scratching it again.
Go to the store you bought the game from and you should be able to get a new one. My store gave me ea skate back. Show them your receipt.
If they dont accept it, you have to call microsoft and send in that game and they send you a new one in the case.

Depending on how deep the scratches are determines if they can be fixed. There are many pastes and polishes, even a sander. For scratches that are not too deep and don't reach the reader (inner part by the hole) I used a banana, sounds crazy but actually worked great. May not work on bad scratches though. An instructional video is seen here.

Toothpaste is also known to work.
