Go into My computer and make sure its recognizing your dvd drive. If its not then you'll need to turn off your laptop and reseat the drive could be that its not making a good connection. If it is being shown in my computer and it can't read any dvd's then the drive is bad and would need to be replaced.

a few things..have you reinstalled any updates for Windows XP? any of them might fix the problem. also...try this...go to Control Panel, then Device Manager, and find your DVD drive in the list...you might have to click on the + sign to see your drive...right click on the name, and click disable...click ok through the prompts, and restart your PC. Now, go back to Device Manager, repeat this, but click Enable, and XP should reinstall drivers for your DVD burner. Hopefully, this helps things. Best of Luck!

you might have to physically unplug the cd/dvd drive restart your computer this should activate the found new hardware wizard
Click start control panel administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question mark ? right click you will have options to update driver, roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak
If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
hope this helps

My cd dvd room isnt working. i think that the main promblem would be the drivers.thank you a lot

Hi,

I am one of the technician trained and experienced with different computer manufacturer.

For your issue here are some helpful steps on how you can isolate the issue.

To check the functionality of the optical drive, try to boot outside windows using a Bootable cd (like OS) to check if your optical drive is working. This will isolate driver and OS issue to hardware issue.

If your optical drive boots up outside windows then the issue is with the software.

- check the device manager if there are bangs in the optical drive (! or ?).
- try to delete the optical drive in the the device manager
- delete the upper and lower filters in the registry
note: before deleting a registry make sure you have it back up.
- restart your computer.

Here are the steps on how you can delete the upper and lower filters in the registry
- click windows logo or start
- choose run
- type regedit
- look for the following folder
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318
-delete the upper and lower filter
- then restart the computer.

Disclaimer: If your not familiar accessing or changing registry file, please contact the manufacturer of the computer as it can damage the operating system.

hope this will help resolving the issue.

Thank you for choosing Fixya

Am using Nero Vision to burn DVD and always comes back with insert blank disk even though there is a blank disk already in the drive.

Hello,
Please fit all the cable if you are using desktop.(Power and data)
Follow the bellow link,
http://www.helpwithpcs.com/upgrading/installing_cd_recorder.htm

Delete all temp file and restart
1. Click Start, click Run, type> %temp% >enter and delete all .
If the problem is same please follow
R_click on my computer>Properties>Hardware>Device manager>uninstall all the usb hub ,one after one .
After UN install all the usb, restart your PC .
If same please
Click on the link bellow link
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems/en-us

And clink on RUN NOW from right side box
It will fix your problem.

If the problem is same

You can try this trick - It might work - But, only if this is the root cause of your problem:

Many third-party programs that control CD or DVD burning (as well as some player applications) install CD- or DVD-ROM filter device drivers into Windows. These filter drivers are meant to allow for low-level hooks into the hardware, to allow for functions such as packet writing (where a CD-R/W or DVD-/+RW can be written incrementally, like a hard disk).

How CD/DVD issues can occur

These filter drivers sometimes have problems that can cause the CD or DVD drive to stop working correctly. The device entry for the CD or DVD drive in the Device Manager may show up with an error descriptor that reads "The device could not start." Additionally, there may be an error message that reads "One of the filter drivers for this device is invalid." The devices themselves do not show up in Explorer. Error codes for the device include code 31, code 32, code 19 or code 39, and sometimes the even more ominous warning "Your registry might be corrupted" appears.

Fixing the CD/DVD problem simply involves deleting the filter entries for the third-party device drivers. These entries can sometimes become damaged (which is what produces the "corrupt registry" warning).

How to fix CD/DVD issues
First Backup the registry.

Step 1: Start Registry Editor
type "regedit" in the Start Run box.
Step 2: Delete the UpperFilters registry entry

1. In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
2. Expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet.
3. Expand Control, and then expand Class.
4. Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
5. In the details pane of Registry Editor, on the right side, click UpperFilters.

Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only.
* If you see the UpperFilters registry entry in the details pane of Registry Editor, go to step 6.
* If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the
LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to "Step 3: Delete the LowerFilters registry entry."
6. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
7. Click Yes when you receive the following message:
Are you sure you want to delete this value?

The UpperFilters registry entry is removed.
Step 3: Delete the LowerFilters registry entry

1. In the details pane of Registry Editor, on the right side, click LowerFilters.

Note You might see a LowerFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click LowerFilters only.

If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, unfortunately this content is unable to help you any more. Go to the "Next Steps" section for information about how you can find more solutions or more help on the Microsoft Web site.
2. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
3. Click Yes when you receive the following message:
Are you sure you want to delete this value?
The LowerFilters registry entry is removed.
4. Exit Registry Editor.

Step 4: Restart your computer
Restart your computer. After you have done this, try to access the CD or DVD drive. If you can access the CD or DVD drive, and if you do not receive an error message, the problem is resolved. You can reinstall your CD or DVD writing or recording software.

Several of the products made by Roxio are infamous for causing this problem, although in fairness to the company the most recent versions of their Roxio CD/DVD writing software (6.2 and higher) do not have these problems. Users of 5.0 or 6.0 editions of the Easy CD & DVD Creator product, which has been bundled with many new PCs in the past, should upgrade to 6.2 or better. Other programs can also cause this problem, with the same solution.

Note that after you do this, you may lose functionality in the program that uses the filter drivers, which may need to be reinstalled.
Hope this helps

Uninstall You DVD/CD Rom Driver From Device manger in Control Panel and then Something Should Come Back Saying Installing Drivers For Your Device Wait Till Finishes Or If It Cannot locate driver browse for location and put C:/Windows If C Drive Is your windows drive put it But The Windows Folder Is Compulsory .

It Should Install The Drivers But Still If It Doesnt Work I Think You Just Have to Download Firmware For The Exact Model Of Your Drive Try Google or the Web Of The Manufacturer .

If It Still Doesnt Work I Hope You Have A Limited Warranty
Just Return It Or Give It to Test....

Good Day.
