Question about HP Pavilion F1703 17" LCD Monitor

2 Answers

HP Pavillion 170 no picture

This monitor is about 6 years old and working fine until we were cleaning the desk. Both the power cable and cable to computer are attached but the power button is not lighting up and no picture appears.

Is there a something simple I can do to diagnose this problem?
Is there a fuse?
Do they generally last more than 6 years with daily use?

Thank you watcher 407 and gymowner for your help. It was the power cord that was disconnected when my wife cleaned it.

She showed me it came complelely unplugged and she tried to re-install it to he back of the CPU as she could not find the connection on the back of the monitor!

In tracing all the wires and looking at seems pretty obvious there is no like connection on the back of the CPU.

Is the cable a straight cable? or does it have a power brick in the middle of it? the most obvious problem would be power. check the outlet with a lamp or radio to be sure it has power. then if you have a multimeter i would test the end of the cable with it plugged in to be sure its sending power to the monitor. if both of those tests pass then id say its a monitor issue. typically the newer lcd monitors last longer but any compuet monitor used daily will last 5-10 years typically (that my findings and nothing more). hope i helped.

It sounds like it just died, it was a coincidince, that you were cleaning. There is no fuse, and 6 years is pretty normal if not great for an lcd. Even if you could send it back, it wouldn't be worth it, I sent back a 19 that only lasted aboy half as long, and just to pack and ship it was $70.00. You can get a 19 inch replacement from for under $150.00. More than likelly if you checked the connector going into the monitor and both that and the end going into the computer, you blew the main board. not worth fixing. By the way, if you sprayed the monitor with a cleaning solvent while connected, that may have caused the problem.

If there is no picture on the screen there are number of reasons.

1. Faulty PC it can power up but not get the post are there any beeps from the PC if so how many and what pattern are thay.

2. The cable between your PC and monitor is loose / faulty Check your cables.

3. If you have put a 3rd party Video Card in this may be faulty or have come unseated, open the case and check if its firmly plugged in

My HP Pavillion zt1170 has a very very very faint monitor but i can hook up a vga cable to my desk top monitor and see it fine. What is wrong?

the lamp on the monitor is going bad or the power inverter (which gives power to the monitor). You have to take it to a repair shop. We cant tell you without actually looking at your laptop. But it's definetely a hardware issue, not software. I hope this helps

There is no fuse inside. If this is idle for a few years , might be there is some dust in switch so you will have to clean it once and also try with exchanging the power cords.

Plugged in a new 23 inch LG LCD Monitor and cannot get picture

In additio to the fine help given by Mister.

If you have a DVI output on your computer get the cable for that and this will greatly increase the quality of your display.

Your graphics card should be able to autodetect a DVI monitor and suggest the best display type.
