Question about General Electric Stove/Oven/Range Chrome Timer Knob Set - WB3X459

Open Question

GE flat top electric range, Rt front coil would not turn off even after knob is turned to off. We had to unplug to turn it off. Then it stayed off but if turned back on just stays on hot even if the knob is turned to low or off.Started after overflowing of soup over the range, cleaned the knob, but still same.

I was cooking tonight on my back burner and could hear some strange noises and went to turn off the burner and while the knob was turned to the off position the burned stayed lit and I had to unplug the stove to make sure the burner is off. I could smell something burning inside.

Can I just replace the switch or burner for this?

On my electric stove, one of the burner caught on fire, and now the indicator light stays on even after the stove is turned off

If the light remains on, that would indicate the circuit was damaged. The light goes on when the circuit is complete. This usually happens when the burner gets hot. If it caught fire, then the stove is registering it as hot all the time.

My ge stove is dead. control panel is out, burners and oven will not turn on

The circuit breaker probably tripped. Usually it will be a 2 pole 40 or 50 amp breaker. Turn it all the way OFF, then back ON. Sometimes it's not easy to visually tell if a breaker has tripped, so do it anyway. If that doen't solve the problem post back please.

See if this helps. Page 26 shows a digital clock. Even if the buttons and knobs are different on yours the procedure may be the same.

Electric coils do not work

Check the connections on the back of the oven feeding the elements. If good, follow back to control switch and check everything there.

GE oven ignitor replaced, gas turns on but no flame

Yeah, blowing up the house is never a good way to replace an appliance :)

Try contacting GE at: http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/contact/form_service.htm. It should be free and they'll be able to help you narrow down what's going on.

Alternately, new GE ranges start at a little over $400 at Home Depot... You certainly have to appreciate keeping a good appliance going, but if it starts nickel & dimeing you, it may be that range's time to go.

Replace Electronic Range Control (ERC)

Replace the ERC there are ten screws 3 on each side and 4 on the control leave the hex screws alone all you need is a phillip screwdriver.
REMEMBER TO SHUT OFF THE POWER FIRST lift and fold out the control panel remove the ribbon cable and remove the four screws that hold the control board . replace control panel in reverse order.

Good Luck!!
Have a nice Day!!

Replacing oven burner element, the lower element, for a GE stove

(I think it is 50 watts or volts??)
Most electric ranges are supplied with 220 volts - this is, especially at 60 Hz, deadly. You were lucky this time.
If the wires are not welded onto the element contacts, they might be so-called 'quick-disconnects' that pull straight off of blades that are part of the elelment.
You probably haven't hurt the range with the momentary short circuit since the chassis of the range is connected to neutral or ground so you just gave your breaker a workout. BTW, I have had to replace late breakers after they tripped. They wouldn't stay reset any more even after the problem was removed from the circuit. Don't be surprised if yours doesn't stay reset; it may not be a fault causing it.
