Photosmart D7260 does not sense Paper in maintray

My HP Photosmart D7260 printer says I am out of paper. There is plenty of paper in the main tray. I have replaced the paper and get the same report. Still will not print

I have the same problem. I tried adding one sheet at a time or just a few at a time. I tried adding more. I took out the paper and adjusted it. Nothing works. This machine is useless!

I have the same problem. My paper tray is full but the printer will frequently report that it is out of paper. I have yet to find a solution to this problem.

Printer continuously says it is out of paper. I pull the tray out, push it back in and I am good for one or two more sheets.

    Same thing: VERY frustrating.

Note: new HP photo papers have VERY course backings (almost sandpaper) to them; they work. Looks like the co. is trying to sell paper.

The printer does not feed paper from the main or the photo tray. It gets sporadic use - bought it less than a year ago - new - at Office Max. Prints high quality pictures but if the useful life is under 1000 prints it has a serious design flaw.

    Is there a reasonable/reliable fix?

I had the same problem. I hadn't used the printer in a long time and it took a few minutes to figure out what I did. This may not be your problem, but there are two sliders on the main tray. The first goes left to right and the second goes front to back. If you've use normal 4x6 paper you put the paper in and push the slider forward to lock in the paper so it prints straight. The problem is if you run out of paper and haven't used the printer in a long time, you may try to slide the paper in just like you would a normal printer. But for it to work, you have to pull the front-to-back slider back, and make sure the paper is forward of that slider. If you've pushed it way forward after trying to shove your paper in, you may have to find something to pull it back out again, because your fingers might not be able to get in that far.

I pulled the main input tray out- how do I put it back

Try looking at HP's page on your model here:

Is it a 'carriage jam' or an 'out of paper' error?

The paper input tray on your machine should go back in similarly to a kitchen cabinet drawer. Lift up slightly and push in, and it should slide back into place.

Out of paper tray has paper

remove the use a flash light to look at the lever that senses that the paper is in the tray. That probably means that the plastic lever that senses the paper. It might be stuck, off its lever.
If that is not it, then maybe you have a sensor or motherboard issue. Make sure the entire paper tray is pushed in or it will act that way. There are like 3 sensors that have to be activated in order to think it has paper.

Loading your paper
Paper loading tips:
● Load paper with the side to be printed facing down.
● You can print photos and documents on a wide variety of paper sizes, from
8 x 13 cm (3 x 5 inch) up to 22 x 61 cm (8.5 x 24 inch). The 10 x 15 cm
(4 x 6 inch) photo paper is available with and without tabs.
● Before loading paper, pull the Main paper tray out (use the Main tray release or
the tray grips) and slide out the paper-width and paper-length guides to make
room for the paper. After loading paper, adjust the guides to fit close to the edges
of the paper without bending the paper. When finished loading paper, push the
Main tray back in all the way.
● Load only one type and size of paper at a time in the same tray.
● After loading paper, extend the Output tray extension to catch your printed pages.

I am unable to print photographs on my D7260 HP Photosmart Printer bacause the blank photo papers are not being drawn into the machine

Have you loaded them face down? I have a 7360 and they are pretty fussy about what they will take and what they won't and how. The paper must be put in the upper drawer (if it is 6x4 paper), with the glossy side down and the drawer must be pushed right in.
