Bought a used Roper RS25AGXNQ02, tried to turn the filter knob on bottom of fridge to replace filter, wont turn? Which way to turn to remove and does the water have to be turned off to rreplace. Previous owner did not have owners manual.
Bought the filter replacement and read the instructions. Turn off ice maker and replace filter. Remove by turning 1/4 turn to the right. pull out old filter. Remove cover, slide off, replace cover by sliding on the new filter. Push new filter in to the holding, hold so cover is horizontal, push in and turn back clockwise till the cover is horizontal to the floor.

On the front bottom of your unit you have a grill. On the grill there is a round knob. Turn the knob 1/4 turn counter clockwise and pull the filter out. Note the slot on the back of the knob that holds the old filter. Slide the old filter out of the slot and replace with the new filter.
Reinsert the filter with the knob into the filter housing. Turn the knob 1/4 turn clockwise to lock it in.
Now, the new filter has air in it. At your water dispenser, fill cups with water. There will be a lot of air and water coming out. Continue this until all of the air is out of the filter and there is just water fill.
When to change your water filter - Your unit has a water filter change light. This light is not tied into water pressure. It is like a egg timer. Every 6 months it will light. This does not mean you need to change your water filter. Change your water filter when your ice cubes start to get small or the water coming out of your dispenser is of a low flow. Depending on your family size, you may not need to change your water filter for several years.
My name is Peter. I am a retired Sears Home Services refrigeration technician.
The knob you speak of is the filter location. Take that off, remove the filter, and replace with a new one, that should solve the trouble, you can probably get a new one online or thru Lowes or Home Depot, or any place that has this style machine for sale, i.e. Sears.
Hope this is of help. Please rate and comment, Thank You
You have to take front kick panel back off and use knob to take water filter out will be tight but will twist counter clockwise. Then with filter out replace kick panel, then install water filter with knob installed. That should take care of your problem
The filter will come out attached to the cover .. look inside the cavity . there should be a space there for the filter .. the ones at the top of the fridge are quite small compared to the ones that go at the bottom on some fridges. Most appliance or building supply stores will have replacement filters on hand .. have your make and model number to get the correct replacement., or the old filter ..
Are the water inlet / outlet correctly fitted onto the filter ??
Sounds silly - but very easy mistake seen several times.
Is the water supply for the filter turned on . . remove hoses from filter to verify. - YOU WILL GET WET.
The effort it would take to eliminate filter would be too much. Just leave filter in place. If new house filter is working right you should never have to replace fridge filter and your water will be double-filtered :)
I had the same problem. I coudn't get the knob to turn. I ended up taking the front grill off so I could get a better grip on the knob. Once I did that I still have to put a lot of pressure on the knob to turn it but that did the trick. When I got it turned a quarter turn then it was easy to pull the filter out. Hope this helps!
IT'S FAIRLY EASY. GET DOWN ON THE FLOOR IN FRONT OF THE FRIDGE, ON THE BLACK GRATE ALONG THE BOTTOM YOU WILL SEE A KNOB. TURN IT TO THE LEFT JUST A LITTLE. MAYBE 1/2 INCH AND THE FILTER WILL PULL STRAIGHT OUT.MAKE SURE THAT YOU THEN TAKE THE BLACK KNOB OFF THE OLD FILTER. YOU WILL NEED IT FOR THE REPLACEMENT.
