Constant Restart Loop

I have a user who uses a Joybook 5000u.

Today he's suffering a constant restart from, what sounds like, the BIOS screen. He says that he starts it up like normal, it gets to the Joybook logo and then restarts.

I've talked him through the Battery out, mains in and mains out battery in elimination process - to no avail.

Do you think this could be a dead CMOS battery? Or maybe a loose RAM board?

Thanks in advance

    Thanks guys.

We tried to get into Safe Mode and Last Known Good Configuration but no good. I also talked him through the RAM changing etc and tried various configurations and still nothing.

Last ditch attempt is to try booting from another disk and see if it is the hard disk in the Joybook.

It's a good 3+ years old. And still takling the tasks.

The cmos battery will not cause the computer to do this. If you think it it could be loose ram try removing the ram and booting then replace the ram and power up again. Or follow the link below for a suggestion that includes a guitar pic

It just doesn't sound like a hard drive problem i would lean more towards the ram. Although i have a vaio that whenever i install the hotkey utility the computer constantly reboots on its own. It could always be something like that.

Tap F8 when booting up and choose the last known good configuration before having him open it up. This should solve the problem. How old is the computer?

Please remember to rate me.

Dell inspiron one is stuck in a constant repair loop. NO option for repair or factory reset . Please help. Thank you

Try restoring failsafe option in the bios F9 and save it.If that doesn't work to get you out of the cycle try turning it off as soon as it tries it again 2nd time by holding down the power button. It may go to safe mode from there.when restarted.Hopefully you can get somewhere from there. If not try tapping F8 from an initial boot not from restart.

A constant reboot cycle is happening. Fires up and just as the desktop appears the computer reboots. I can get into bios screen, and don't see anything out of the ordinary.

try safe mode, F8. Then right click my computer, click properties. Open advanced tab, choose settings under startup and recovery section, Make sure restart on failure is unchecked. When you restart, record any messages you get for troubleshooting purposes.

Screen is black

It could be something called an LCD inverter. Part is cheap and easy to replace. It is the chip where LCD plugs into that is the part that needs to be replaced.

Hello, find the BIOS Beep Codes at and try to find your problem. It is not a software or Monitor problem. It could be RAM or Video Card failure
