You can't retrieve data from those disks on whatever computer you're using it on. It apparently doesn't support the same format that you used save the data to the disks initially. I don't know what you can do, other than just trying the disks on any computer you can find that has a floppy disk drive until something works. Personally, I absolutely hate all the formats there are for removable disks. I have problems just like that with CDs all the time.
Well, good luck.

How do i fix my floppy drive, It keeps telling me to insert a disc in drive a, when theres one in there.

Can you tell if the drive is running? Check the power connector to the floppy drive and make sure it is on. I"m assuming this is in a desktop. The back of the floppy should have a illistration of the pin connectors and one of them should be labeled #1. Make sure the ribbon that is plugged into the floppy drive is plugged in correctly. The one side of the ribbon cable is painted red. It should match the diagram for #1 pin position. If you haven't changed this drive since it last worked then leave the cable as it was and just make sure it's pushed in tight. Don't change the cable if this drive worked once upon a time. If that all looks good then the drive may be defective. It's not detecting that a disc has been inserted. The nature of a floppy drive is that they get dust inside of them and they don't have a long life sometimes. That's why most computers don't come with floppy drives any more. They're a junkie way to transfer data. Memory sticks and cds are too easy.

Hi, FD for machine, unable to formatting & saving files. How to fix it??

#1
Insert your ( memory card , flash disk , cellphone , .... ) into your computer.
#2
Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
#3
Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
#4
In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
#5
Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
#6
Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.

New Dell Internal / External USB Floppy Drive 1.44Mb

It would appear that you may need to do a couple of things in order to restore the drive back to normal. I would disconnect the drive using the icon provided to this effect and doing it after the message says it's safe to disconnect it.
If the message says differently, I would still disconnect it, unles you're in the middle of writing, which you're not.
Upon reconnecting the drive, should the condition persist, I would recycle the laptop and try again. It does not make sense that a disk that you recently read from to burn a CD is no longer readable, unless the mechanism inside the drive had collected debris that caused the data on your floppy to be ruined. That would be an unfortunate disaster.
If rebooting the laptop still fails to read the disks, then try blowing any dust or dirt from inside the drive using one of those small canisters of compressed air that people use to clean their keyboards and other devices and try again.
Should the condition persist, try loading the floppy disks on another system to see whether they've been ruined by your drive.
If they are readable, then the drive would appear to be deffective.
Good luck!

My floppy drive tells me to insert a disk when I try to use it

Sounds like you have a bad drive or the disk is corrupted. Did you try a different floppy disk to see if the drive is functioning?

Disk with data stored on it says that it is not formatted

Maybe you had something with a magnetic field lying nex to the flopy drive and the code got mixed up and now the data is not readable.
You can try with raw extraction like in CD's. you need to have a program to recover the data without having to actually decode them. I used to use Recovery Toolbox for CD's, I'm sure there's a simular programe for floppy's somewhere on the net. after recovering, things worked on the computer, although the dish was never usable since the day I got the message 'can't read data'/'no data'/'not formatted' etc.
With floppy's I think that you'll never get the data from it by computer itself. I didn't get the data from the corrupt CD's, and they have much more advancer programs than floppy discs. so I recomend you find the program, get the data and throw the floppy away. If you have problems finding the program, post and I'll help.

Usually your local Fry's, Staples, Office Depot could do the job for you (or even a local PC Tech).
