Grease caked on the oven from a spill

I cooked a turkey yesterday and there was a whole in the pan which caused a large amount of grease to spill ~ smoke was coming out of the oven. I immediately shut off the oven (luckily the turkey was cooked), and while I cleaned some of the grease off, there is still a large amount of grease which has hardened in the oven.

I'm afraid to turn on the self-cleaner because of the intensity of the oven when it's turned on to the self-cleaner. Can you please tell me what household product I can buy to first clean the grease off and then put on the self-cleaner?

I have a gas General Electric oven?

Thank you

First--Look for a couple release levers around the bottom of the oven. You should remove the bottom and scrape the spilled grease off. If you can't remove it, clean off what you can before using a standard ovencleaner. It will still need to be washed well before firing it up.

I spilled a lot of bacon grease in my accubake oven when i turned the self cleaner on it flamed

Wipe out the oven with paper towels. As much as you can. Try putting some baking powder down to absorb the grease then wipe it out. If the flames are not huge it should be ok. Mine did that once and burned out the grease and did not damage the oven, but they were very small and burned down quickly.

best way to loosen grease in the oven area is to place an oven safe pan with some water in it and run the oven at 200 degrees for thirty minutes. This help in the removal grease without using anything but water.

Maytag convection range model MER5875QAB The convection fan runs really slow, I can count the revolutions. I can turn it by hand but it won't spin. Is there a service for the fan (cleaning, oiling etc)...

I usually disconnect the fan and soak it in alcohol to remove the grease buildup from cooking oils and animal fat. This fixes most of the fan motors I have ever dealt with.
Remember that these fans do not have bearings. They float on a brass bushing which is why the fan eventually becomes caked with grease and slows down.

Oil mystierously appears on bottom pan of oven, 465, when in use.

Larry,

Your stove has no parts that contain any type of oil or grease. It's possible that the prior owner accidently spilled some oil on the stove. I would continue to clean up the grease and hopefully it will all run down and after the clean up, it will disappear.

How to clean an oven window

After a long period, grease can get caught and cooked between the double windows. You can usually remove them with a screwdriver to clean them. Beware it may void a warranty if that is an issue though.

Caked on grease is best removed by letting the glass soak in detergent (like dawn) if it comes all the way out. If not, you can wipe it down with a detergent on a sponge. Then pat it dry with paper towel and use a solution of white vinegar and water to make it shiny and get the baked bits off. If your warranty won't allow you to remove the double glass, you can at least get it cleaner by using this method on the inside and outside. This won't solve what is jammed between the double window, but will probably make it so you can see inside.

If you are saying that the grease got in between the layers of glass (lamination), then you will have to disassemble the door, clean the glass, and reassemble. I haven't done this job on your particular model, but have on others and it is a tedious & time consuming task.

If though the grease is just cooked onto the inner surface of the glass on the oven door, you could use a single edge razor to scrape the gunk off (being extremely careful not to flip the blade causing you injury), as you would ice off a windshield with an ice scraper. There are handles made to keep the blade secured while using it (making it less likely to flip and injure the user).
