After connecting the head phone sound still comes from my speaker

I suppose you are running Windows XP. This notebook is not officially designed to work on Windows XP, however there are some unofficial drivers available for windows XP, you may try downloading the sound drivers from:
http://sites.google.com/site/sriksang/software/drivers

I'd recommend to install all the drivers from this page. After installing the above drivers the headphone problem would be solved.
In case the drivers on this site do not work, let me know I shall provide you other links to the drivers.

Please rate this solution.

Window xp not installed

CQ40 108TU (compaq) is designed to work only on Windows Vista. If XP is installed then likely some of the hardwares will malfunction. It is advised that only Vista is installed in YOUR CQ40 108TU

Connecting head phone

If I'm not wrong you're using windows XP right ??? IF so no other choice cause the firmware of your hardware is design for Vista.Actually if in the case I said, then what you can really do is downgrade your firmware by downloading the old version from the othe model. But again if you want to use Vista...again problem.
takecare.
