Your webcam's driver might not be installed. try installing the cd that comes with the notebook.

A webcam (web camera) allows you to share live video images of yourself (or things near you) while you are instant messaging with a friend.

Start your webcam during a conversation, or invite friends to tune in by broadcasting a link to your webcam as your status.

When you set your status to "View My Webcam", that means you are inviting friends to tune in to your broadcast.

Friends can click on your status message to indicate that they want to see your webcam.

You will then receive your friend's request to view your webcam which you can accept or deny.

Yawcam (Yet Another Webcam Software) allows you to stream a live broadcast from your webcam or DV camera. In addition to streaming video, the program can also save captured snapshots to a local file, upload them to a remote FTP server or serve them via the built-in web server. Furthermore, a motion detection feature allows you to automatically start capturing snapshots or perform other actions whenever the software detects any motion within the monitored area. Other features include optional text overlays, timestamps, motion detection mode, a built-in scheduling engine, password protection, image-to-movie conversion and more. Yawcam can optionally run as Windows service. hope this helps

HOW TO CHAT ON LIVE IN WEB COM

Use Your Webcam in Yahoo Messenger 1 Head to the Yahoo home page, turn on Yahoo Messenger using the 'Messenger' link and log in using your account name and password. You'll need to create an account if you haven't done so already (see Resources below). 2 Click the 'Messenger' followed by the 'Start My Webcam' option. This will load your webcam, and is among the ways you can get your webcam to begin broadcasting. 3 Click on the camera icon that appears in a chat window while you are talking to a friend. 4 Click on a contact from your Contact List, then click 'Invite to View My Webcam.' This opens a new IM window with your webcam active. 5 Click the 'View Webcam' link while talking to others in IM. This will allow you to see their webcams. 6 Use the 'Super Webcam' mode when you want to send and receive high-quality images and feeds. Broadband makes it possible to see one another in very high resolution, although even with high-end broadband your computer may slow down a bit because of the amount of memory and processing power this requires. 7 Click 'Webcam' followed by the 'Who's Watching Me' button to see which of your friends is receiving your webcam's feed.

You can activate your live webcam broadcast by making user Id in Skype. You can also do this with live video chat option on Google. Note that the PC you want to video chat is connected properly with your webcam.

How to use web cam

How does a webcam work? There are two different ways to use a webcam at home — through e-mail and with instant messaging programs.
E-mail your video filesTouse a webcam with e-mail, first launch the software that comes with thecamera. Depending on the model, the process of e-mailing and recordingyour video messages may vary. Press Start or Record to begin the videomessage. Click Stop and then preview the video. You can then clickE-mail or Send, which will automatically open your default e-mailprogram (Outlook 2007).
When sending a video e-mail, the longerthe video message recorded, the bigger the attachment will be, so makesure the recipient’s computer can handle the size. The recipient of thee-mail does not need special software to see your video message; he orshe simply chooses to open the attachment and the mini-movie will play.
Instant MessagingA popular way to chat with webcams is in “real-time” with instant messaging programs such as Windows Live Messenger. Note that both ends must have a webcam to chat visually.
Duringa chat, there will be an option to start the webcam right on thescreen, or under the Options or Tools pull-down menu. In Windows LiveMessenger, click Actions > Video > Start a video chat. If youhappen to have a Microsoft LifeCam, starting a video chat is eveneasier.
The Windows Live Call button is similar to speed-dialingon your phone. Pressing the Call Button — located at the top of theLifeCam — will automatically bring up your buddy list, showing youwhich contacts are online. Simply pick one and start your video chat.
Youcan also blog your webcam photos. For example, the LifeCam one-touchblogging feature allows you to take a still photograph with yourLifeCam and post it directly to your Windows Live Space blog. Instantshow and tell, if you will.
To show off your favourite webcam pics, head to the Windows Live Spaces homepage, click Create your space, and start expressing yourself!
Helpful hintsBefore you start using your webcam, follow these tips on security, operation and webcam etiquette.
  • It’s highly unlikely — but not impossible — that someone would try tohack into your webcam to tap into the conversation or use the webcam tospy on you, says Payette. Sending recorded video messages via e-mail ismore secure than real-time Internet chatting.
  • Here’s alittle-known fact about some webcams: the user has the option to turnon a motion sensor function that transforms the device into a “nannycam” so it’ll begin recording once it senses movement.
  • Don’t expect terrific video quality. It’s often possible to adjust theresolution by toying with the webcam’s software settings. But thehigher the quality, the choppier the video frame rates.
  • Some webcams require an additional microphone to record audio, so check before buying.
  • Adjust your camera’s focus, point it towards your face and, mostimportantly, look right into the “eye” of the webcam so your friends onthe other end see more than just your forehead.
  • Webcam netiquette and dress are just like real-life: be polite, be courteous, and wear something casual but presentable.

Can I stream live video from Firewire interface?

Veodia’s recently released streaming-video software is easy to use. Really easy. We’re talking plug-and-play easy. Plug your DV camera into your computer and put it in record mode. Log into Veodia.com and hit “new broadcast.” And you’re live. Instantly. And when you’re done, you hit stop and the video you’ve just streamed is available on demand through your favorite RSS feeder. Instantly. And it works.

When you hit “start broadcast” Veodia takes about 5 seconds while “detecting bandwidth.” The end product is a 320 x 240 live video feed streaming right out of your Firewire DV camera or webcam. This video is embeddable anywhere, meaning you can have this live feed be part of your blog and your viewers don’t need to be registered Veodia members. And each broadcast comes built in with a chatroom for your viewers to interact with you, the webstar, live.
