Ballast or Lamp?

On my Samsung sometimes the picture comes on, then freezes to where you cannot change the channel, then shuts off and I get the (3) blinking lights. I am unsure if it is a faulty lamp or I need to replace the ballast. I just replaced the color wheel and I know it is functioning. Thoughts?

My tv is also turning off and the three light keep blinking. the tech came out and changed the lamp and was ready to leave and then the tv started to flickering again. He then said that it was the light engine and it would cost about 1000 dollars to fix. Is it something that I can replace?

Its not the lamp or the ballast board. In either case, you would lose picture (going blank or black) and sound would soon follow then the LEDs in front would blink if at all.

Odds are its either the DMD board or the digital board.

Do the ballast first. That should get the picture back. The main board controls everything else.

I have a Mitsubishi WD52631 that seems to have intermittent problems turning on

Ballasts were sometimes problems with this set, but I also ran into problems with lamp thermal sensor. It's a small rectangular device sort of cream color and about 1/8th X 3/16th X 3/4 inch in size with lead coming out of one end. Also check safety interlock switch, which is actuated by lamp access cover being properly closed.

My red light is blinking 3 times, the picture comes on and then shuts it self off and starts blinking. I have replaced the lamp and shut the lamp door correctly.

Hi,It sounds like an issue with the board that powers the lamp it's called the ballast. The ballast has a sensor that it detects when lamp is not responding or if ballast is not able to provide enough power to light it up,that's when you get the lamp indicator. This is the most common failure .When you put a new bulb in sometimes the ballast is not able to power it since it uses more voltage that what it was providing to the old lamp. The ballast is something easy to replace and it's cheaper than the lamp.Have a bless one!

Samsung hln617w dlp tv won't turn on. Red temp

Had similar problem. Thought it was the lamp. Examined old lamp but it appeared to be good. Ordered a new one anyway. Changed the lamp but the TV screen would not come on. It would make the usual noise as it was going to come on normally but it would cycle 3 times & then turn off. The LED lights in the front panel would indicate a defective lamp. Then read about the ballast. Changed the ballast & still same problem. Tried starting the TV without the lamp installed & noticed that the color wheel did not spin. Removed old color wheel & discovered it was broken. This appears to be the cause of all of my problems. I wish I new earlier of the test-turn on the TV without the lamp being installed & check to see if the color wheel is spinning. Would have save money on the lamp & ballast.

Turning On Problem

HLP, HCN HL-S The Start-up Problem or/and
3 LEDs in the front blinking.

Unplug the set, pull out the lamp module (not all the way - leave it on the track) and push it back in.

Power issues (Tv not turning on) were typically due to faulty ballast. While the TV reports a bad lamp it is the ballast itself causing the issue. Samsung is well aware and will replace both the ballast and the lamp (since the lamp can be prematurely aged but the bad ballast). After replacment most people stop having issues.

this is most often caused by a faulty lamp or faulty ballast. try resetting the tv by unplugging and leaving it unplugged for 5-10 minutes or so, plug it back in and check it.

you should be able to find the replacement parts via partstore.com

ballast is part number BP4700017A
lamp is part number
